Job Title: :Senior R&D Scientist/Engineer
Company/Department: SINOPEC-UOP Joint Research Center (SINOPEC Employee)
Reports To: Lead Scientist II

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Senior R&D Catalyst Scientist/Engineer is responsible for catalyst performance evaluations, inventing novel catalysts and processes in the field of high-value chemical synthesis. This is an exciting opportunity to work with our R&D team of experts.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

  • Prior R&D experience in catalyst and catalytic processes for chemical production. Relevant graduate school experience may be considered in lieu of experience.
  • Preferred with experience in catalysis research for Synthesis Gas Conversion.
  • Preferred with experience in testing catalyst performance at high pressure and high temperature.
  • Understanding fundamentals of chemistry such as thermodynamics, kinetics, and reaction engineering as well as their application in chemical production processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with a strong focus on delivering results and identifying alternative solutions when challenges arise.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical skills in solving problems.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Good interpersonal skills and demonstration of strong teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to travel up to 5% annually.
  • Must be able to work independently and work well in a team environment.
  • Thorough understanding of laboratory safety procedures is required, at all times.
  • Must have proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook

MINIMUM REQUIRED EDUCATION, CREDENTIALS, LICENSES and EXPERIENCE:

  • PhD. obtained in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, and/or a closely related science discipline, is required. (Degree must be from an Accredited school).
  • Proven track record of catalytic discovery with 5+ years’ experience working in related or academic research programs.
  • Preference will be given to candidates having a strong background in catalysis R&D.
  • Preference given to those candidates having a minimum of 2+ years after-Grad work experience, in R&D, in any of the following work environments: petrochemical, fine chemical and/or gas processing, is required.
  • Must have a Texas Driver’s License or have the ability to obtain one.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the United States

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in group discussions; generate ideas for new catalysts, new catalytic processes, and separation technologies
  • Design and execute experimental plan; analyze and report results and progress to the team.
  • Perform hands on Micro-reactor tests for new catalysts and new catalytic processes.
  • Synthesize new catalysts with lab scale catalyst synthesis equipment.
  • Perform hands on catalyst characterization in the lab.
  • Mentor and supervise technicians to carry out research activities.
  • Participate in all team safety activities and conduct all work with a high degree of attention to safety.
  • Present technical results to SINOPEC and Honeywell UOP and outside conferences.
