Description:
The Pittsburgh Girls Study (PGS) is an ongoing 22-year longitudinal study that began with 2,450 5-8-year-old girl recruited from neighborhoods in the city of Pittsburgh. We are seeking a Sr Research Associate to join our team to direct a new National Institute of Mental Health funded 5-year project on developmental antecedents to suicidality in Black youth. The study includes assessing hypothesized risk and protective factors in children whose mothers are participants in the PGS Child participants will be recruited in early childhood (ages 5-8 years) and followed over time using qualitative and quantitative approaches to derive reliable and valid methods for identifying targets for reducing the risk of suicidal thoughts and behaviors in Black youth. We seek an individual with experience in project recruitment.

Responsibilities:
- Conduct research in a manner that maintains and promotes scientific integrity, and ensure that research projects and environment comply with all applicable laws and regulations.
- Develop research projects including protocol design, budget preparation and justification, data collection and analysis and data storage.
- Supervise Research Associates, Research Assistants, Research Technicians and monitors budgets.
- Responsible for following the mandatory reporting procedures for any incident or serious event that did affect or potentially could have affected the clinical care of any patient.
- Maintain and expand research expertise by acquiring new research techniques and keeping abreast of new knowledge.
- Obtain approval for research projects from review committees.
- Responsible for the planning of manuscript preparation.
- Responsible for supervising record keeping, inventory and equipment management processes.
- Effectively communicates progress of research projects via meetings with, and written reports to, research investigators.
- Plan and implements training programs for Research Associates, Research Assistants and Research Technicians on Research activities and practice including grant application, budget management, data analysis, record keeping and scientific integrity.
- Assist in the preparation and submission of grant applications including budget preparation and justification.
- Master’s degree in a basic science or clinical research area relevant to research activities to be performed, with at least three years experience;
OR
- Bachelor degree in a basic science with at least five years’ experience working within a biomedical research environment, which would include coordinating and executing a research protocol including manuscript preparation.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment in the design and implementation of research projects.
- Interpersonal skills necessary to manage and train research personnel, and to effectively communicate and interface with faculty and hospital staff.
