Description:
Intermap is a global leader in geospatial content development and intelligence solutions. The Research team at Intermap creates, maintains, and supports critical production systems and automated solutions enabling customers worldwide with fundamental remote-sensing, machine-learning, and Geomatics solutions and products on the foundation of high-resolution elevation data. The successful candidate will own the SAR research roadmap to maintain and advance our SAR and IFSAR signal processing expertise.
The primary responsibilities of the Sr Scientist are to advance capabilities in SAR and IFSAR capabilities of both our internal airborne STAR systems, including X-band and P-band, as well as satellite-based SAR images and DEMs via targeted research initiatives. The goal is to enhance the accuracy, spatial quality, function, and commercial opportunity for SAR and IFSAR products, including feature extraction applications, surveillance, and mapping applications.
Job Responsibilities
- Propose, design, develop, and lead independent research to advance capability for all interferometric SAR-based initiatives, algorithms, software, and systems including but not limited to:
- Data improvement, PolSAR applications, motion compensation, IFSAR processing including phase unwrapping, GMTI (Ground Moving Target Indicator)
- Support, troubleshoot and correct problems with existing SAR and IFSAR processing algorithms and software
- Enhance and maintain calibration for Intermap’s X-band and P-band radar systems
- Lead researcher for proposals and initiatives for US-based Federal Agency BAA topics
- Collaboration on proposals for SAR (or other) sensor improvements from a design contribution standpoint
- Development for SAR signal processing advancement, including MATLAB or Python protypes
- Maintain and advance both time and frequency domain SAR processing capabilities
- Mentor and lead Engineering interns and other employees on related projects and activities
Job Requirements
- Advanced Degree (MSc or PHD) in a relevant technical field (i.e., Engineering, Physics, Mathematics)
- Signal and image processing, algorithm development, model optimization, software development, data analysis and/or modeling and simulation
- Experience in researching, designing, and implementing advanced SAR signal processing and algorithms
- Demonstrated ability to interpret, understand and apply theoretical scientific papers and algorithms
- Developing simulations and performance models for radar systems
- Strong programming skills sufficient to generate prototype solutions (C++, C, MATLAB, Python, or similar)
- Digital image processing and computer vision knowledge or experience
- Knowledge in coordinate systems and transformations an asset
- IFSAR, InSAR, and PolSAR processing experience an asset
- SAR-based and Optical image-based feature detection expertise an asset
- Geomatics knowledge an asset
