Description:

What if the work you did every day could impact the lives of people you know? Or all of humanity?
At Illumina, we are expanding access to genomic technology to realize health equity for billions of people around the world. Our efforts enable life-changing discoveries that are transforming human health through the early detection and diagnosis of diseases and new treatment options for patients.
Working at Illumina means being part of something bigger than yourself. Every person, in every role, has the opportunity to make a difference. Surrounded by extraordinary people, inspiring leaders, and world changing projects, you will do more and become more than you ever thought possible.
Position Summary:
Responsible for supporting the NPI and sustaining activities in the production of Illumina’s genetic sequencing instrumentation. Be the main LCM interface with instrument system engineers and software/firmware engineers from the product development teams in Singapore, the US, and the UK to test and verify instrument system integrity and functionality. The position will involve hands-on technical tasks involving all aspects of the product development process including design and analysis, test/integration/characterization, and generation of product and test documentation.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Involve early and understand the system level design and interaction of different functional components including optics, fluidics, motion system, and advanced image sensors/camera for cutting-edge genetic analysis instruments.
  • Work with other engineering disciplines (EE, ME, Optics, Fluidics) in the US and Singapore to sustain the system engineering deliverables which includes Critical Parameter Management, specification characterization, dFMEA and reliability requirement.
  • Lead and drive system-level testing and debugging of system level issue utilizing firmware and software interface during NPI prototype and Pilot builds on-site in Singapore.
  • Work with the design team to gain familiarity with the embedded systems for the assess of sensor data, motor/servo drive, temperature control, and UI response for diagnostics purposes
  • Lead the test strategy to manage change of system level requirement which includes engineering verification test, life test and specification characterization
  • Be the seam of the inputs/outputs between hardware sub-system design and other teams such as software, firmware and electrical engineering teams
  • Lead and guide the team in applying various analysis techniques, such as FMEA and statistical analysis to optimize product quality and minimize cost, providing all calculations, performance data, and drawings required on new and existing products.
  • Lead teams through complex root-cause analysis in which there are many possible root causes that involve various areas of physics. Mentor others on systematic best practices for problem solving (8D method, fish-bone diagrams, etc.)

Listed responsibilities are an essential, but not exhaustive list, of the usual duties associated with the position. Changes to individual responsibilities may occur due to business needs.

Position Requirements:

  • Experience with pulling/debugging information from embedded system such as ThreadX, CentOS on integrated electro-opto-mechanical systems
  • Demonstrated track record of rapidly climbing steep learning curves. Enthusiasm for tackling tough problems on an aggressive schedule
  • Possess effective and excellent verbal and written communication skills and able to mentor, coach junior members in the team in resolving complex system level issue with problem-solving techniques
  • Direct experience completing projects from early inception to release to manufacturing. Demonstrated track record for successfully transferring designs into manufacturing
  • Strong analytical background, statistical analysis fundamentals with record of using results to drive decisions
  • Excellent working knowledge and application of problem-solving techniques such as 8D, KT, FMEA, cause and effect and brainstorming
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively across disciplines required
  • Practical experience and good understanding of BOM (Bill-Of-Material) fundamentals and engineering change management process (TeamCenter environment preferred)
  • Willingness to travel to US for extended stays while learning the technology and working with the US design teams
  • Possess excellent GDP, ISO & cGMP experience
  • Able to identify components with different colors (using visual).

All listed requirements are deemed as essential functions to this position; however, business conditions may require reasonable accommodations for additional task and responsibilities.

Preferred Experience/Education/Skills:

  • Minimum 8 years’ experience, preferable development experience, of working on electro-opto-mechanical systems on complex products which driven by embedded system, preferably scientific instrumentation related to biotech applications
  • Experience with FDA regulated medical device product development preferred
  • Experience in biotech, biomedical, nanotechnology or semiconductor industries preferred
  • Experience interfacing with imaging sensors and complex instrumentation is a plus
