Description:
JOB SUMMARY:
This position requires expert knowledge in design and manufacturing principles related to metal sheet forming and press tool design (molds). The Senior R&D Design Engineer will design new products and tools, such as plates and gaskets, utilizing advanced 3D modeling to optimize performance, manufacturability, cost, and quality of Tranter Products.
Key Accountabilities:
- Achieve Product Development key metrics.
- Apply lean enterprise principles in R&D processes.
- Adhere to HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) guidelines and support the implementation of HSE regulations and policies.
- Assist with production method analysis to ensure time and cost objectives are met.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
- Experience in sheet metal pressing is essential.
- Proficiency in Siemens NX CAD and 2D CAD modeling (e.g., AutoCAD) is required.
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in 3D modeling using NX, CATIA, Inventor, or SolidWorks.
- At least 5 years of experience with 2D drawings and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).
- Expertise in manufacturing principles related to metal sheet forming, press tool/mold design, and qualification processes.
- Familiarity with engineering standards (e.g., drawing practices, metrology, welding practices, etc.).
- Knowledge of FEA (Finite Element Analysis) or forming analysis is desirable.
- Experience with stamping tool design, compression/injection mold design, or similar manufacturing processes is advantageous.
- Familiarity with fluid system design or heat transfer is beneficial.
- Experience with hydraulic press simulation is a plus.
- Proficiency in ERP software for BOM tracking, pricing, and new part documentation.
- Ability to communicate fluently in English, both written and spoken.
- Ability to travel up to 30% to witness design qualification testing in Houston and South Korea.
- Ability to identify and implement improvements in production performance.
- Strong teamwork, interpersonal skills, and active learning mindset.
- Ability to occasionally lift 9-14 kilos as needed.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

- Familiarity with heat exchangers is preferred.
EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline (equivalent design experience may be considered).
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in R&D or Product Design Engineering is a must.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, evaluate, and verify designs to meet product requirements and cost targets.
- Lead prototype production, sample creation, and lab tests.
- Manage relationships with external suppliers.
- Develop new products and services from concept through launch to meet customer needs.
- Perform design analysis on components and assemblies to ensure cost-efficiency, manufacturability, and reliability.
- Maintain and update the existing product portfolio.
- Lead design changes and support supply chain and purchasing activities.
- Provide technical and claim support.
- Own product and component designs.
- Apply knowledge of welding, metal joining, and subsequent processes in product design.
- Participate in research and development, including laboratory testing, building prototypes, and analyzing results.
- Prepare technical documentation, specifications for new products/processes, and train operations staff on new processes.
- Maintain technical data on existing products and processes.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
