Description:

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Program Manager will be responsible for managing, promoting, and expanding the Southside Collaborative’s health clubs and community outreach programs. In addition to day-to-day program management, this position helps create and implement strategy to ensure high visibility and robust community engagement. Staff helps to build, nurture, and grow strong relationships with current and prospective partners, and individual and organizational leaders in San Antonio’s Southside community. The Program Manager will report to Southside Collaborative’s Director.
Key responsibilities include:

Program Management and Development:

  • Organize, program, and manage weekly health club meetings, including oversight of logistics, activities, curriculum, and communications.
  • Help to develop participant leadership in health clubs, resulting in attendees taking an increasingly active role.
  • Ensure health club activities and curriculum are relevant, engaging, interactive, fun, and high-impact.
  • Research and pursue opportunities to expand the number of health clubs across the Southside.
  • Organize and manage community outreach activities, including scheduling, staffing, materials, messaging, and opportunities for engagement.
  • Ensure strong follow-up to community outreach activities, including communication and next steps with contacts made.
  • Ensure community outreach is strategic, aligned with promotion of health clubs, and complementary to the Collaborative’s physical health and wellness focus.
  • Research and pursue opportunities to expand community outreach activity across the Southside.

Working with Community Partners:

  • Engage community partners in the Collaborative’s health clubs and community outreach programs.
  • Help to ensure that community partners are well-informed, well-supported, and effectively leveraged in supporting the Collaborative’s programming.
  • Develop and maintain a list of community partners and upcoming events.
  • Organize outreach to current and prospective community partners and upcoming events, including following up as needed.
  • Coordinate research and other activities with coalition partners to minimize redundancies and align strategies and actions, including conducting individual outreach and education.
  • Work with the Collaborative Director to update outreach strategy as new needs emerge.
  • Maintaining an understanding of the current landscape of local and regional activities related to the Social Determinants of Health.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community partners.

Communications:

  • Communicate the objectives of Southside Collaborative to the community and potential partners.
  • Facilitate ongoing communication between Southside Collaborative partners by helping to coordinate regular coalition meetings and providing updates to ensure alignment of activities.
  • Create and/or manage quarterly and annual impact reports of Southside Collaborative’s progress for the Steering Committee and external audiences.
  • Help to develop communications materials as Southside Collaborative evolves, potentially including summary documents, brochures, FAQs, and other items.
  • Actively promote and leverage web, social media, and texting to promote health club engagement and community outreach activities.

Data Collection, Analysis, and Reporting:

  • Work with the Southside Collaborative Director to ensure all partners know targets and metrics.
  • Assist in creating monthly and annual summary reports of progress.
  • Work with partner agencies to provide information to support coalition grant applications.
  • Assist in the coordination of Southside Collaborative grant reporting to funders as required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 4-years of relevant work experience, including at least 2 years leading or managing programs in community development, education, social services, or health care.
  • High school diploma/GED or college degree in related field.
  • Significant lived experience with community organizing around health and wellness issues.
  • Community Health Worker (CHW) certification (or in process of completing).
  • Familiarity with the Social Determinants of Health.
  • Knowledge of project management fundamentals and experience managing complex projects.
  • Computer literate in MS Office suite products.
  • Bilingual proficiency (English & Spanish), including speaking, writing, and reading.
  • Valid Class C Texas Driver License.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated to work alone or in a group.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage the scope, requirements, deliverables, timeline, and resource needs of complex, multi-stakeholder projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate diverse groups of stakeholders to achieve an expected outcome.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Must be an effective and open communicator with multiple audiences, including community-based organizations, all levels of government, philanthropic foundations, researchers and educators, health professionals, and service providers.
    Vehicle/Licenses: Must have daily use of a vehicle without prior notice. Must maintain current registration and automobile liability insurance that complies with Texas Law.
    Physical Requirements: Physical requirements include frequent lifting/carrying 25 pounds; visual acuity, speech, hearing; hand and eye coordination; and manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer keyboard and essential office equipment. Subject to sitting, standing, reaching, walking, twisting, and kneeling to perform the essential functions. Working conditions are primarily inside an office environment or field environment. Must be available to work evenings & weekends at conferences and other events, with advanced notice.
    Communication: Ability to communicate clearly and effectively via oral or written means. Ability to present a friendly and positive demeanor to service providers, staff, and the general public. Ability to communicate professionally and promptly by email and to accomplish written tasks in a fast‐paced organization. Ability to prepare and present data analysis, findings, and implications to non‐technical audiences.
    Composure: Ability to respond professionally in all situations.
    Decision‐Making: Ability to set work priorities and evaluate and create solutions to work‐related problems. Decisions should be systemic and not individually based.
