Description:
JOB SUMMARY:
The Family Centre Assistant assists in the Early Years Family Centre which is a hub for pre-school families to meet, learn, and
access community resources. They also assist in the delivery of programs including of Roots of Empathy.
QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE):
- Early Childhood Certificate level 2 or related area of post-secondary education required.
- First Aid and CPR training completed within the probationary period (90 working days).
- Completion of Working Effectively with Violent and Aggressive States (WEVAS), Working Safely with Students, and Respect
In School or equivalent training is required.
- Experience with planning age-appropriate activities for infants, toddlers, and older preschoolers.
- Ability to implement activities with a group of young children in cooperation with their parents.
- Ability to provide safe childcare practices.
- Demonstrated ability to explain concepts and issues to children and develop rapport with students, on a one-to-one basis
and in group settings.
- Understanding of cross-cultural Indigenous issues and perspectives.
- Ability to work with and be respectful of a diverse and multicultural community.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work as a team member.
- Good problem-solving skills and the ability to interpret situations accurately and act accordingly.
- Ability to assist in the area of personal care needs.
- A positive outlook with a belief in the ethic of caring and inclusion.
- Ability to meet physical demands of position.
- Knowledge of Mother Goose, Nobody’s Perfect, Rock and Read, or Alphabet Soup is preferred.
