SUMMARY

The Staff Accountant will report directly to the Accounting Supervisor and will be an integral member of the Site Accounting team responsible for the day-to-day accounting of mine operations and site related activities. Your primary responsibility will be to produce materials, goods, and associated services for all operations, maintenance, and support functions.

ABOUT US

The Keno Hill mine, located within the Keno Hill Silver District in Canada’s Yukon Territory. Keno Hill, is one of the highest-grade silver districts in the world, is situated 350 kilometres north of Whitehorse, and lies within the traditional territory of the First Nation of Na-Cho Nyak Dun. It comprises 242 square kilometres (km2) with numerous mineral deposits and more than 35 historical past-producing mine sites. Keno Hill is expected to produce 2.7-3.0 million ounces of silver in 2024 as the mine ramps up production.
The mine is owned and operated by Hecla Mining Company, headquartered in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Established in 1891, Hecla has a rich history as a distinguished and respected precious metals producer. QUALIFICATIONS

  • Diploma or certification in the accounting/business field or working towards a CPA designation.
  • 2+ years accounting experience.
  • Experience in mining industry an asset.
  • Knowledge if IFRS/US GAAP and SOX Controls.
  • Knowledge of Sage 300 an asset.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with superior attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines on multiple tasks and projects.
  • Possess strong computer skills (Excel, Word, Outlook); advanced Excel skills considered an asset.
  • Resourceful, enthusiastic, and not afraid to bring new ideas to the table.

Responsibilities:

HERE’S WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT IN THIS ROLE:

  • Support site financial and accounting operations to provide efficient and timely delivery of monthly, quarterly, and annual deliverables, financial reports, and statements for both internal and external reporting.
  • Assist as needed on corporate external financial reporting and auditing requirements.
  • Support Accounting Supervisor and Site Controller on month end close process.
  • Prepare inventory reconciliation between PO system and accounting system (identify and reconcile variances).
  • Prepare, maintain, and reconcile various Site Working Papers and post related journal entries (ie: payroll, deposits and prepaids, capital leases, PP&E, etc.).
  • Assist with month end accruals and reconciliation of intercompany accounts.
  • Revalue USD accounts and prepare foreign exchange journal entries.
  • Assist AP team with invoice processing and PO review in accordance with established procedures as needed.
  • Reconcile and prepare monthly GST Remittances.
  • Prepare monthly subledger reconciliations for AP, AR, and bank accounts.
  • Ad Hoc Projects/AR invoicing as required.
  • Assume other responsibilities and administrative tasks as needed.

  • Receiving training and instruction as required.
  • Maintaining good housekeeping standards
