Description:

JOB SUMMARY:

The role of the Staff Accountant/Senior Accountant is multifaceted, involving a range of accounting tasks such as the establishment, execution, and regulation of accounting policies, systems, and processes. The individual in this role is also accountable for the aggregation, examination, and presentation of financial data to assist managerial decision-making. They also function as the main financial intermediary with government agencies and additional funders on contractual matters. The Staff Accountant/Senior Accountant will be a key member of the Accounting Department and will report directly to the Controller.

REQUIREMENTS:

The candidate should possess substantial knowledge and experience in accounting, coupled with familiarity with the fiscal requirements of funding contracts. The ability to analyze financial information, maintain professional relationships, prepare audit schedules, perform cost-benefit analyses, and provide advice and technical assistance are critical for this role. Additionally, the candidate must have a sound understanding of accounting standards and best practices. Strong Microsoft Excel skills (including complex formulas) is required for this position. Experience working with MIP Abila is a huge plus but not required. Candidates with an Associate’s Degree or a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting are preferred.
Location: Onsite in the Strip District area of Pittsburgh (free parking provided!) The opportunity to work a hybrid schedule might exist in the future.

Responsibilities:

Oversee the general ledger, which includes analysis of financial performance, data entry, account management, and account reconciliations.
Responsible for financial analysis, review month over month and year over year variances, as well as variances to the annual budget.
Monitor all cash accounts and prepare cash reports and invoices on a monthly basis.
Execute financial reporting and filings, prepare financial statements and monthly, and annual reports.
Ensure fiscal compliance for all funding sources by reviewing contracts, preparing invoices and acting as primary fiscal contact during audits.
Undertake auditing, budgeting and compliance duties, maintain knowledge of current policies and procedures plus accounting standards.
Reconcile balance sheet accounts on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis.
Adhere to the policies and promote best practices in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
