About this opportunity:
Cenovus is currently looking for a Staff Geophysicist to join our Conventional Development team located in the Calgary office. Reporting to the Edson/Berland Sr Geoscience Manager, the Staff Geophysicist will work with a multi-disciplinary team responsible for the Ansell, Wolf, Peco and Berland assets. The ideal candidate will use their extensive geophysical expertise to support both the execution of current development projects and the long-term strategy of the Conventional Development Group.

What you’ll do:

  • Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team of Geologists, Geophysicists, and Engineers to support capital program planning and execution
  • Use fully integrated geophysical interpretation to optimize inventory, plan wells, and perform execution reviews
  • Apply geo-mechanical evaluations for induced seismicity assessments to support drilling, completion, and disposal operations
  • Assess and make recommendations on sale, trade or lease of Cenovus proprietary seismic data
  • Evaluate business development opportunities such as acquisitions and divestitures, mineral land tenure expiries and crown land sale acquisitions
  • Contribute to Cenovus’s subsurface community by participating in peer reviews, technical assurance and knowledge sharing events
  • Generate new insights and opportunities to develop resource in core operating areas
  • Progress and support capital programs through technical reviews, regulatory approvals and post execution evaluations

Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • B.Sc. Degree or higher in Geophysics as well as an APEGA membership or another Provincial Professional Geoscience Organization is required
  • A minimum of 12+ years of related industry experience
  • Experience with a wide range of geoscience software including SeisWare, Petrel and Hampson-Russell, as well as Strong skills in 3D seismic interpretation & visualization, seismic attribute analysis & other specialized geophysical interpretative techniques
  • Sound knowledge of geology and familiar with a good understanding of clastic depositional systems
  • Previous working experience in the Western Canadian Deep Basin as well as previous geomodelling experience will both be considered assets
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
