Description:
CLINICAL/PATIENT/CLIENT CARE: Utilising basic analytical skills that take into account all facets of the childs development, the family and broader social context: Using a range of clinical skills, to assist and at times autonomously lead on assessment and treatment care needs, within a risk assessment framework for children and their families admitted to the Unit. To assist in the planning, implementation and evaluation of family centred nursing care and management plans as agreed with the core team. To support the delivery of a range of daily individual and group structures to promote the therapeutic milieu of the Unit. This includes providing agreed activity groups and individual activities.
To observe, communicate and at times, co-work with senior multidisciplinary team members, in the provision of a range of therapeutic approaches on an individual, group or family basis. To provide high quality clear written and verbal accounts of the childs stay in relation to the defined care and management plans. To contribute to evidence-based clinical nursing reports, for parents and multi- disciplinary professionals as agreed with the core team. To actively access and participate in the unit supervision and support process and in line with development, to provide on a shift by shift basis, the same to newly qualified/appointed nurse, support worker and student nurse staff.
To follow and inform the development of policies and protocols to support evidence based clinical practice. Proactively manage telephone calls; many may be of a sensitive nature from patients/parents/carers or from other healthcare professions, all of which require a high level of patient confidentiality and sensitivity. Responsibility for providing accurate, up to date, clinical advice relating to queries into the department. MANAGEMENT & LEADERSHIP: Contribute to the promotion of a working culture that improves quality and efficiency within the department.
To support the senior management team with the identification of more efficient ways of working within area of responsibility. To comply with all Trust and department policies and procedures. To take charge of defined shifts, supporting the team by organising and managing tasks related to the daily structure and functioning of the service. This includes leading, managing and supporting other qualified support worker and student nurse staff and structures in meeting the care needs of the patient group.
To work collaboratively with the core team, taking responsibility for defined tasks, in managing the core team process, maintaining key working relationships with the child, family and multidisciplinary team. To assist the team in the ongoing provision of complex daily routines and structures in the context of a safe, healthy and therapeutic environment. To provide high quality verbal and written communications for daily reports and multidisciplinary clinical reviews. COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Communicate professionally and effectively with patients/parents/carers, the general public and all internal and external agencies both verbally and non-verbally in a timely manner.
Ensure diplomacy, empathy and confidentiality when dealing with distressed patients/parents/carers. Liaise with clinical and non-clinical staff to resolve any issues that may arise, to the mutual benefit of all concerned. Meet and greet external visitors to the department in a professional and polite manner. Attend and contribute to departmental meetings, team updates/debriefs etc.
ANALYSIS AND JUDGEMENT SKILLS: To critically analyse and make informed judgements on clinical presentation and related care needs of the patient group on a day to day basis. To ensure comprehensive clinical risk assessment and management needs of the patient group on a day to day basis. The provision of comprehensive clinical reports when required and within locally agreed timescales. To assist the multi-disciplinary team in the debrief process, addressing any needs identified within the agreed timescales in line with tasks of the role.
Exercise judgement and initiative in order to manage the workload effectively and efficiently, taking appropriate action to resolve any issues, liaising with appropriate personnel and seeking guidance from the Line Manager/clinical supervisor when required Work flexibly to ensure the needs of the service are met at all times. Ensuring required data can be captured and managed securely in line with the Information Governance and Data Quality Policies. PLANNING AND ORGANISATIONAL SKILLS: To plan and organise the day to day activity of the shift in the role of Nurse In Charge (NIC) and ensure key information is effectively communicated to ensure appropriate management of future shifts. To plan for/provide reports for defined cases in line with CPA/Clinical review process.
When required, assist in the development and delivery of training programmes for staff/students. To support the delivery of a high quality patient care by working closely with the unit team to meet national and locally agreed targets for in-patient CAMHS. Adapt a flexible attitude to meet the needs of the service in line with day to day needs. PHYSICAL SKILLS AND DEXTERITY: Required to actively participate and at times lead on defined physical and occupational activities on an individual and group basis.
Required to effectively and safely utilise a range of approaches in managing challenging behaviours which may include the use of restrictive practices in line with clinical presentation/risk for which the post holder is trained in. The post holder may be required to undertake a variety of moving/handling in line with clinical needs. The post holder will require base line keyboard skills
