Description:
The Staff Research Associate III (SRA III) will contribute, as part of the flow cytometry and single cell RNA sequencing efforts (high throughput screening) to the processing of human cells, and in particular, cell isolation, processing, careful counting, freezing/thawing, and staining of cells for cytometric analysis in order to better identify the cellular drivers of various disease, such as decompensated liver cirrhosis and preterm birth.
The employee’s principal is responsibility will be for human cell processing, handling, and isolation for two downstream applications 1) Isolating and staining of cells from human ascites fluid for use in flow cytometric analsys and 2) RNA-Sequencing; in particular single-cell RNA Seq, and ultimately bulk RNA-Sequencing of cells captured through flow sorting. The employee will divide time between two different projects, one focused on the understanding of decompensated liver cirrhosis, and in particular the cells that reside in ascites fliud, and the second project will focus on identifying specific cells that drive phenotypes of preterm birth.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $30.89 - $49.68 (Hourly Rate).

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- BA/BS with a degree in a related science and two or more years of recent, directly related work experience, utilizing the techniques or methods required by the position and demonstrating technical expertise in these areas; and/or equivalent experience/training.
- At least two years of laboratory work in a research setting; rigor of industry experience preferred
- BSL 2/3 approved (Bio Secure Lab)
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, organizational and record keeping skills
- Ability to work as an effective and efficient team member, and to participate in team meetings and planning
- Enthusiasm, positive outlook, collegiality and scientific curiosity
