Description:
Overview:
This collaborative position in the Long Lab within translational immunology at the Benaroya Research Institute provides a unique opportunity to explore the role of clonal expansion and autoreactive T cell features in early T1D disease using TrialNet samples. Overall, the Long Lab focuses on better understanding underlying mechanisms of autoimmune disease, patient variability, and response to therapy using human samples.
Responsibilities:
The staff scientist leads independent cellular and molecular research relevant to single cell islet specific T cell multi-modal data comparing cells isolated from early T1D individuals (stage 1) with stable versus advancing antibody profiles.
The applicant will:
- Design and perform experiments to identify autoreactive B and T cells for down-stream transcriptional analyses
- Work with the Bioinformatics team at BRI to design and perform experiments; this may include learning computational skills and using systems tools
- Collaborate with leaders in the field of autoimmunity including TrialNet from which samples were obtained
- Publish papers, write grants and present findings at meetings
- Supervise support staff in the lab

Qualifications:
- Requires a Ph.D. and post-doctoral studies in Immunology or a related field and experience in tissue culture, cellular and molecular techniques
- Minimum of three years of related postdoctoral training
- Demonstrated track record of technical proficiency, scientific creativity, collaboration with others, and independent thought
- Preferred: experience with cytometry, systems immunology and large data-sets
Compensation:
$79,680 to $125,100 per year
