Responsibilities:
THE ROLE:
Work with the Alcohol & Drug Unit (ADU) CMN and Drug and Alcohol Clinical Services (HNELHD) multidisciplinary teams to provide excellent patient care to maximise the health outcomes for the community – particularly related to withdrawal management services. The provision of contemporary, comprehensive and professional specialist services that are safe, effective, evidence based and patient centred.
This position will provide face to face and virtual Drug and Alcohol Clinical Services involving Calvary Mater ADU as a base, and across DACS sites and services within Lower Mid North Coast and Tamworth – New England HNELHD. It will involve development of clinical pathways related to D&A withdrawal, involving working with consultation liaison and other D&A health professionals in Taree and Tamworth hubs, integrating inpatient, outpatient and community treatment. Telehealth support will form part of this integrated clinical approach.
Specialists in Addiction Medicine are experts in the biopsychosocial assessment and management of alcohol and drug related problems, as well as utilising approaches for the prevention of alcohol and drug-related harm.
A critical role for the Consultant in addiction medicine is recognition of the role of different services in providing an effective treatment system and effective communication and collaboration.
DUTIES:
- Lead and role model professional clinical service delivery, providing expert advice and mentoring for less experienced staff
- Supervise junior medical staff
- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships and networks to support seamless service delivery across health care teams and optimisation of outcomes for patients
- Ensure patient care is delivered with professional, organisational, legal and ethical boundaries and reflects evidence based best practice and knowledge
- Integrate organisational clinical policies, procedures and evidence based clinical guidelines into nursing/allied health professionals practice to drive the delivery of safe, appropriate and accessible care, underpinned by the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards.
