POSITION SUMMARY:

The Steel Structure Designer is responsible for designing, analyzing, and preparing detailed drawings of steel structures for various construction projects, including industrial, commercial, and residential buildings. This role ensures that all designs adhere to industry standards, project requirements, and safety regulations, while maximizing material efficiency and structural integrity.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

• Educational Background:
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field.
• Technical Expertise:
• Proficiency in design software like STAAD Pro, SAP2000, ETABS, AutoCAD, Tekla, or Revit.
• In-depth knowledge of structural mechanics, steel properties, and relevant codes (e.g., AISC, BS, Eurocodes).
• Experience:
• 2–5 years of experience in steel structure design or a similar role.
• Experience in steel fabrication and construction processes is an added advantage.
• Skills:
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• High attention to detail and precision.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

• Structural Design and Analysis:
• Design steel structures based on project specifications, client requirements, and applicable codes (e.g., AISC, Eurocodes, BS).
• Perform structural analysis using software like STAAD Pro, SAP2000, and ETABS to ensure stability, strength, and safety.
• Optimize designs to achieve cost-effectiveness and efficient material usage.
• Preparation of Drawings and Models:
• Develop detailed 2D drawings and 3D models using CAD tools such as AutoCAD, Tekla, and Revit.
• Prepare general arrangement (GA) drawings, fabrication drawings, and erection plans.
• Incorporate all necessary specifications, including dimensions, welding details, bolt sizes, and material grades.
• Collaboration and Coordination:
• Collaborate with architects, project managers, and engineers to integrate structural designs into overall project plans.
• Coordinate with drafting teams for precise and clear drawings.
• Liaise with contractors and fabricators to clarify design details and address issues.
• Compliance and Standards:
• Ensure adherence to local and international codes, safety standards, and project specifications.
• Stay updated on changes in standards and advancements in steel design technologies.
• Quality Assurance and Documentation:
• Review and validate designs and drawings for accuracy and completeness.
• Maintain organized records of calculations, drawings, and revisions.
• Participate in design reviews and incorporate feedback as necessary.
• Site Support (if required):
• Provide technical support during construction or fabrication stages.
• Conduct site visits to verify compliance with designs and inspect structural elements.
