Description:
Job Title: Sterile Services Technician
Location: Covering shifts at Ipswich Hospital – IP4 5PD and Colchester Hospital, CO4 5JL.
Trust: East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust
Department: Sterile Services
Band/Pay rate: Band 2 - £12.08 - £22.10 (Shift dependant)
Hours: Monday – Friday working 37.5 hours per week on a mix of shifts covering 06:00-14:00, 14:00-22:00 & 22:00-06:00
An exciting opportunity has arisen at Ipswich Hospital. We are looking for 5 Sterile Service workers to join our friendly team. The Sterile Services department is at the heart of the Hospital, this critical service is responsible for the decontamination of medical devices for surgery and patient care. This is not a patient facing role but is very much patient focused and the patient is at the core of everything we do.
SKILLS REQUIRED:
- A basic standard of general education with proven literacy and numeracy.
- Evidence of previous sterile services experience
- Good communication skills, verbal and written, and basic computer literacy.
- Attention to detail and an overarching desire to deliver a high-quality service.
- To be able to handle manual handling duties up to 13kg.
Responsibilities:
YOUR DUTIES WILL INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
- The safe collection and handling of potentially infected instrumentation prior to decontamination.
- The preparation, sterilisation, quality assurance and distribution of surgical instruments and soft packs to operating theatres and other hospital departments.
- Packaging instruments, when applicable, in accordance with Hospital policy.
- Inspecting all sterile packages for integrity once the load has cooled sufficiently and returning any compromised packages to be re-packaged and re-autoclaved.
- Ensuring all items passed through a decontamination process have a traceability label attached/available.
- Perform quality checks, ensuring all relevant paperwork within the department is completed.
