Job Summary:
This is an on-call, as required position without benefits. The position requires the ability to operate high pressure boilers, turbine generator, and auxiliary equipment. All employees are responsible for providing a comfortable environment for other Colby College residents and staff. This position reports to the Engineer in charge of the Central Steam Plant.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- A Maine State High Pressure Boiler Operators license required.
- Mechanical ability to operate, maintain, and service of the mechanical equipment and systems used in high pressure steam plants.
- Ability to operate and maintain Biomass and Natural Gas Boilers and controls, fans, pumps, and similar equipment.
Responsibilities:
- Perform all work in a prompt, neat, and careful manner that displays common sense, planning and thoughtfulness.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and mechanical areas in a neat and clean condition.
- Work in a positive, cooperative manner with other departmental personnel and the Colby community.
- To notify and / or obtain advice from the Engineer in Charge or call for assistance as may be appropriate in any situation.
- Test condition of the boiler water as directed.
- Read and record steam plant data hourly.
- Monitor, record, and control opacity emissions in accordance with Colby directives and the State of Maine DEP and federal regulations.
- Operate, change, and clean burners.
- Operate soot blowers.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance and other repairs as directed.
- Perform all other task, and duties as directed by the Engineer in Charge
