This role is to support Council’s vision by providing thorough, evidence-based analysis and insights on Policy that impacts Council’s community outcomes.
We are looking for a super star to join our Corporate Planning and Strategy team to provide:
- Conduct comprehensive research and analysis on policy and bylaw issues relevant to the organisation’s focus
- Monitor and evaluate legislative and regulatory changes at local and national levels
- Develop policy/bylaw briefs, reports and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations
- Collaborate with internal teams to align policy analysis with organisational strategies and objectives
- Stay informed about current events, trends and emerging issues in the policy landscape
- Effectively communicate and maintain relationships with both internal and external stakeholders relevant to policy and bylaw development
- Develop strategic relationships and provide advocacy
- Ensure active Council, iwi, community and stakeholder engagement in the context of policy and bylaw development
- Take a lead role in ensuring draft policies are consistent across departments and Council
- Provide mentorship and guidance to team members
This role will be responsible for:
- Vision 2050 strategy development and management
- Strategy and policy – consistency with strategic direction (Vision /Te Arawa 2050) and identity
- Bylaws/policy register – review and creation
- Corporate planning e.g. Long-term Plan/Annual Plan/Pre-election report/non-financial performance measures
We are looking for a motivated individual with proven thought leadership at a strategic level, and with the ability to proactively assist in the direction of the organisation.
In addition this role requires proven positive strategic development and management with iwi and key stakeholders, as well as excellent communication and relationship management skills and ability to work effectively as an influencer. In this role you’ll be making a positive contribution to shaping the future of the District. Your relationship management skills will be critical and you will be working closely with Government, Iwi and senior staff and elected members in Council.
In addition, you will have well-developed written and oral communication skills and be well organised in order to meet project deadlines. Our roles will require you to apply good judgement, evaluate complex policy problems/options and data, think strategically, understand and apply advice of specialists from diverse disciplines, manage information, and also facilitate, mediate, negotiate, and develop effective solutions.
