ABOUT THE POST:

Do you want to be part of a dynamic team that shapes the future of our council? We’re looking for talented people to step into the roles of Strategic Communications and Marketing Officer.

We have the following exciting roles within our team:

Your aim – develop great communications and marketing activity that makes a difference in people’s lives and helps us to achieve our priorities and ambitions. We’re proud of Barnsley, and we want your passion to match ours.
You’ll do this by using multiple channels and creating engaging, high-quality content. As a talented communicator, you’ll put to work your skills in public relations and working with the media, copywriting, social media content creation and management, and delivering innovative, integrated communications and marketing campaigns.
Your insight-led plans and campaigns with SMART objectives will deliver results for Barnsley.
You’ll be confident in creating and delivering digital marketing strategies, maximising the benefits of platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, editing software and AI systems. Your work will look and sound great and be able to stand out in a crowded market of content competing for attention.
You’ll be a natural storyteller, who is confident in working with communities across the borough to tell their stories, using the right tone and language to make our messages clear for a wide range of audiences.
You’ll be experienced in liaising with local and national media, and you’ll be skilled at spotting opportunities and confidently selling stories to promote both the council and the place.
Managing priorities and multiple projects effectively will be key, and you’ll need a political understanding of how your work and activity affect all our stakeholders. All of our roles in Communications and Marketing are politically restricted.
You’ll have a Level 6 qualification in communications, marketing or a related subject or a Level 3 qualification in communications, marketing or a related subject with extensive equivalent experience in communications or marketing roles.
We’re a creative team working in a fast-paced environment, bursting with ideas and enthusiasm. With your previous experience in communications and marketing roles, you’ll be an important part of it. We can’t wait to work with you.
