MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business management, business administration or a related field. 3-5+ years of human resources experience. Technical skills working within such Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems such as Workday, Peoplesoft, SAP, etc preferred. Higher education experience desired. Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with employees and managers. HRCI, SHRM, or any other professional management certification preferred.
Compliance Salary Range Disclosure
Compensation Range $100,000 - $110,00
Responsibilities:
JOB PURPOSE:
The Strategic Human Resources (HR) Business Partner focuses on improving the employee experience and achieving both department and Howard University objectives through people and HR strategies. In collaboration with leadership of their identified units, the partner will consult, advise, and collaborate on organizational needs. This role works proactively with leaders to create and implement talent management, professional development and organizational plans. The business partner will ensure alignment between department human resources’ initiatives, focusing on successful execution and outcomes, while considering immediate and broader implications.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Ensure compliance with all HR policies and practices within the area of responsibility and with legislative and regulatory requirements, standards, and other applicable policies and guidelines,
- Align the university’s and HR’s strategic plan, mission and visions while promoting both values and culture change
- Engage proactively and strategically with leaders to ensure the university can hire, develop, and retain the “best fit” human capital as it pertains to our staff
- Provide units with advice and coaching to maximize talent performance and mitigate risk
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks, and ensuring regulatory compliance
- Understand and respond to complex business environment scenarios, which align talent with business strategies and goals
- Provide the appropriate consult and guidance on talent management and organizational matters (e.g., performance management, career development, disciplinary actions)
- Interpret university and human resources policies and procedures
- Deliver communications during complicated and sensitive situations in a manner that promotes action and compliance
- Analyze data from departments to support new HR strategies and initiatives in support of the university goals
- Partner with HR Operations to gather and analyze information on key personnel indicators to support effective decision-making and talent management planning
- Leverage leading practices and data to support and advise departments for all areas of HR
- Strive to promote culture and values by proactively educating and advising to improve the employee experience and reduce risk
- Perform other related responsibilities as requested and when necessary
