Description:

At Swindon Borough Council, we want our town to be the best it can be. Our ambitious vision in the new Swindon Plan is supported by realistic transformation programmes, with the people of Swindon at their heart. Because that’s who we’re doing it for – the communities and businesses that make our town great. As part of the Council, you’ll support a friendly local authority making decisions with real impact. It’s all for better public services. Better processes. And a better quality of life, for everyone. Join us, and Swindon will be better with you.
Your role will strategically lead on whole council sustainability and climate change programmes through the development of annual strategies and medium-term CapEx investment plans for net zero and decarbonisation activities for scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions. In addition, you’ll establish and chair a Net Zero cross-council working group.
You will play a pivotal role in assisting Swindon Borough Council in our journey towards achieving net-zero emissions. You will provide strategic guidance, technical expertise and innovative solutions to help the council reduce our emissions and contribute to a more sustainable future. On a day-to-day basis you will lead on the analysis of carbon emissions from multiple perspectives such as understanding our carbon emissions impact, target setting (SBTI where appropriate), using/applying various digital platforms, developing emissions reduction roadmap, preparing Net Zero strategies, and helping to implement these across the council.

Responsibilities:

You will be comfortable working in a matrix environment, be pragmatic, have a strong commercial acumen, innovative and be adept at solving problems and proficient in seeking out and unlocking external funding and subsidies.
You will support the Director of Inclusive Growth and key development partners to build a greener Swindon which stimulates inward investment into the Swindon economy, contributes to Net Zero outcomes and actively supports the delivery of the council’s wider inclusive economy & sustainability priorities.
You must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act “for the effective performance of a customer-facing role”).
