PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Tax, CPA or JD/LLM preferred.
  • Minimum of 8-20 years of experience in tax, with meaningful experience in consulting, planning and transactions.
  • Demonstrated experience working with C Corporations, Partnerships, and S Corporations. Not all are a prerequisite, but a commitment to becoming qualified to consult on middle market transactions require a commitment to this experience and competency.
  • Proven track record of managing and leading complex tax projects and engagements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think strategically, creatively, and assertively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficient in tax research software.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 6 years of experience in public accounting or related field
  • 3 years supervisory experience
  • Must have active CPA or equivalent certification
  • Ability to manage all aspects of client engagements
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing throughout all levels of organization, both internally and externally
  • Must be able to travel based on client and business needs
  • Proficient use of applicable technology
    The annual salary target for this job in this market is $120,000-$160,000. The specific compensation for this role will be determined based on the education, experience, and skill set of the individual selected for this position.

Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND PRIMARY DUTIES

  • Serve as client’s trusted advisor, demonstrates knowledge of industry trends, identify client issues and conflicts; proactively communicate solution options to client and team
  • Manage staff on engagement deliverables (such as financial statements, tax returns, work papers, etc.); complete technical and strategic reviews as a member of the final engagement review team to ensure quality control standards are met; ensure on time delivery and on budget
  • Demonstrate proficient technical skills for handling all client responsibilities, including knowledge of trends, industries, alternatives, etc.
  • Understand the client’s organization, procedures and internal policies
  • Responsible for new client development in partnership with upper management; participate in client meetings, presentations and proposal development and meet individual cross serve
  • Manage and retain multiple client relationships, engagements and special projects
  • Develop overall engagement budget
  • Consistently meet charge hour goals
  • Responsible for billing and realization on assigned clients; explain variances
  • Supervise, train and mentor staff; listen and communicate effectively
  • Foster a team environment; demonstrates support of management and decisions and build a positive culture
  • Participate in practice development activities that lead to the generation of new business and the opportunities for cross-serves

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leadership and management responsibilities in tax consulting and planning engagements for a variety of clients, focusing on sales, mergers and acquisitions, initially under the supervision of the Specialty Tax Lead managing director.
  • Provide strategic tax advice to clients on a wide range of tax issues, pre-transaction assessment and consulting, structuring, a strategic evaluation and restructuring, or post-transaction integration and coordination. There will be a number of strategies developed into recurring projects, based on the candidate’s experience, capabilities, interests and the firm client needs.
  • In depth technical skills in C Corporations, partnerships, S Corporations are extremely helpful, but a willingness to continue to develop those skills is a requirement. Technical tax issues will involve all entity types for the middle market, so there is a greater technical expectation of this person than a more typical specialist.
  • Identify, develop and implement tax planning strategies to optimize tax positions for clients.
  • Collaborate with clients and internal teams to develop responsible, creative or even assertive and comprehensive tax solutions tailored to client needs.
  • Initially, this position is a small team of two dedicated professionals, with the support of a national firm for project needs, but the plan will be to identify interested and capable candidates to expand the team, mentoring, developing, and growing the team will be important. The team has the opportunity for rapid and explosive growth.
  • Conduct thorough research on complex tax issues and present findings to the audience, for example clear and concise manner with nontechnical clients, and providing more technical explanations internally to client service teams who implement services.
  • A constant student of changing laws and the business environment is essential to the performance of the team. Observing, and staying curious and sharp technically is a requirement. And knowing where you are the expert, or having the discipline and maturity to notice where you are not the expert is imperative.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships through exceptional service and communication. This position will inherently move between the ultimate clients served, but there are clients who always have needs, and there are client service teams, or a network of referral sources where relationships are still very important.
