Our achievements include one of the highest recycling rates in the south, delivery of major capital projects, from elite sports venues to major mixed tenure housing developments, reducing Council Tax in real terms for 20 years running and tackling the housing crisis as the Borough’s leading housing developer. And there’s more to come.
About The Role
This role requires an experienced waste management professional to help shape the future delivery of the Council’s Waste, Recycling and Street Cleansing services. Reporting to the Head of Street Services, you will manage and develop the Council’s in-house waste, recycling and street cleansing services, providing supportive leadership to a team of around 100 employees.
You will work with the Head of Service to drive service review and development, service commercialisation and income opportunities, with the initial focus on implementing Simpler Recycling.
You’ll make a lasting contribution to the design and delivery of future waste management services benefiting every household in the Borough.
You will support the Head of Street Services to safeguard the Council’s Operator Licence by ensuring that systems, procedures and monitoring arrangements are in place and maintained effectively to ensure legal compliance.
About You
We’re looking for a highly resilient waste professional, experienced in leading people across high profile frontline services. You’ll have a proven track record of delivering continuous improvement and ideally hold a relevant degree or equivalent experience alongside membership of a waste-related professional body.
You’ll bring experience in motivating and engaging with a diverse workforce, building and maintaining effective operational teams with a clear goal of delivering the best services possible for our residents within constrained resources.
You’ll hold a Transport Manager Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) or be willing to undertake the training to support the Head of Street Services when required.
You’ll have an honest and straightforward style, excellent communication and negotiation abilities and share the value that customers are at the heart of everything we do.
If you believe you have the skills and qualities we are looking for, we look forward to hearing from you!
