StreetScene Maintenance Technician Apprentice

To assist our Maintenance Technicians (MT) who are responsible for undertaking general repairs and maintenance of a skilled and routine nature (to recognised trade standards) on all Council non-housing assets including public toilets, street furniture and shelters.
All the below is to assist our existing Maintenance Technicians in the following areas.

Providing a high standard of repairs and maintenance such as plumbing, joinery and carpentry, painting/decorating, maintenance of lighting/statutory testing and fire alarm testing when required in respect of non housing assets including;

• Installation of street name plates and signage.
• Checking outside drainage gullies and clearing out debris as necessary.
• Minor plumbing repairs to toilets/sinks as required.
• Repair/maintenance of woodwork, windows, doors, tiling, plastering and general decorating.
• Bricklaying, basic electrics and basic glazing.

Purchase materials and equipment directly from suppliers as necessary to carry out the role.
Maintain stocks of supplies, spare parts, tools and equipment relevant to the role in a tidy and ordered manner.
Undertake preparatory tasks for the tourist season such as installing beach taps, preparing seasonal toilets and beach hut maintenance.
Provide support in the setting up ensuring that infrastructure is safe for a number of annual events in the district.
Carrying out all duties in a safe manner with regards to health and safety and welfare of self, staff, service users and members of the public.
Make sure the StreetScene Operations Team offers a customer focussed service using systems thinking principles.
Support the Council’s approach to equalities and diversity ensuring that our services and policy identify, address and promote the needs of our diverse community. This includes the need for safety of children and other vulnerable people.
Take personal responsibility for the relevant aspects of all Council health and safety policy.
Ensure awareness and compliance with the Council’s policies, Codes of Conduct and Constitution.
Assist in managing risk within the service.
Hours: 37.00 per week

Training Provided:
You will attend Exeter College for one week a month to work towards your Property Maintenance Level 2 Apprenticeship.

• Sidmouth
• Exmouth

GCSE or equivalent Maths and English 4/C or above
