We are recruiting a Junior to Intermediate level Stress Analyst, Engineer (Nuclear Industry) for our facility in Cambridge, Ontario.
Engineering Analysis & Qualification is a dynamic group within BWXT Canada that is responsible for ensuring nuclear components and equipment designed, fabricated, and installed by BWXT meet all Code and customer requirements for structural integrity and thermal-hydraulic performance. As an Engineering Analyst, you will use finite element analysis (ANSYS & ABAQUS) and other techniques to ensure ASME Code and customer requirements are met. Structural evaluation includes pressure and mechanical load analysis, transient thermal-stress analysis, and seismic analysis. You will be working within a collaborative and diverse group of highly skilled engineers who will share their knowledge and will assist with your growth in engineering.
JOB SUMMARY:
To perform structural qualification of steam generators, heat exchangers, process vessels and piping assemblies for new equipment supply or in support of field services. Structural analysis of small structural platforms or components in support of field services.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or civil engineering or associated fields with strong background in solid mechanics and/or fluid mechanics and heat transfer.
- Experience with finite element analysis.
- Experience using general purpose FE codes such as ANSYS, ABAQUS and numerical packages such as MathCAD or Matlab.
- Knowledge of nuclear plant functions and ASME BPV Code would be an asset.
- Knowledge of CSA S16 or equivalent structural codes would be an asset.
- Proven problem solving and organizational skills and ability to develop effective working relationships.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
- Typically, 2+ years of experience.
- P.Eng or interest in obtaining same would be an asset.
Responsibilities:
- Perform numerical analysis and design qualification of nuclear components using finite element analysis or classical closed-form solutions which would include:
- Structural analysis
- Transient thermal analysis
- Heat-transfer analysis
- Response spectrum and time-history seismic analysis
- Provide input and support to Project Engineering including:
- Input to set the design
- Preparation of calculations and reports to qualify the final design
- Evaluating non-conformances as required
- Responsible to demonstrate acceptance to the criteria of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code and the Customer’s specification.
