Description:
Lake Superior Consulting is seeking a Structural Engineer I to join our growing team!
The Structural Engineer I will be responsible for project engineering in our growing Facilities Engineering group. This person will assist in other engineers to plan and conduct work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application, and adaption of engineering techniques, procedures and criteria. The Engineer will learn from more senior engineers how to devise new approaches to problems, and prepare or modify drawings, specifications, calculations, and monitor work for compliance to applicable codes and accepted engineering practices. The Engineer will also be responsible for learning and assisting the Senior CAD Designers/Technicians with drafting of drawings using AutoCAD.
Responsibilites:
- Perform structural design and analysis calculations using governing codes and standards, engineering formulas, skills, and experience.
- Assist other engineers with tasks related to a specific project.
- Assist CAD team to create drawings based on markups and sketches provided by more senior engineers.
- Research design options and document findings for Engineer of Record
- Review shop drawings
- Perform field activities such as observing and recording existing field conditions; taking and verifying measurements within project area, and site visits with more senior staff as needed
- Organize, draft, and coordinate technical documents
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET accredited university
- Structural or civil engineering internship experience preferred
- Ability to show professionalism in the workplace
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and in close collaboration with others
- Willingness to learn from more experienced staff members
- Preferred experience with engineering/design software such as AutoCAD, RISA 3D, Navisworks, etc.
- Basic knowledge and understand of 2-D drafting techniques
- Basic knowledge of design codes including: ASCE 7, AISC 360, ACI 318, etc.
