Description:
SBM is currently seeking one structural design intern to work with our engineering staff in the small building division of our London office for 16 months, starting in May. The candidate will assist with structural analysis and design for a variety of small building types, including single-family and multi-residential dwellings projects. This candidate will work primarily in Part 9 of the building code on small buildings projects. Field work, including structural evaluation and/or construction review, may also be required.

SKILLS / QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completed three years towards a Bachelor’s Degree in Structural Engineering (or equivalent) from an accredited Canadian University, or equivalent, and enrolled to complete the Degree
- Exposure to the Ontario Building Code, and other applicable Canadian Engineering standards would be considered an asset.
- Exposure to home building or renovating considered an asset
- Strong understanding of structural analysis and design methods
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook; AutoCAD suites experience considered an asset
- Familiarity with structural analysis and design tools common to the building engineering industry
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Enthusiastic team member

- Access to reliable transportation for travel within Ontario, primarily within London and surrounding area.
Responsibilities:
- Become familiar with design guidelines, standards, and regulations associated with structural engineering
- Preparation of structural engineering design and documents ensuring accuracy, adequacy, and conformance to the design requirements.
- Coordinate with other team members on various projects at the same time to achieve project milestones
- Accept technical guidance from designers, technologists, and senior staff
- Work within the project team environment from preliminary stages of the design through to completion
- Coordinate structural aspects of projects with other discipline designs and drawings
- When required, complete site investigations, general reviews of construction, and preparation of field review reports
