Description:
Jensen Steel Fabricators is responsible for the supply, fabrication, coating and installation of structural steel of varied projects across the North Island, and works with with many of New Zealand’s major leading construction companies and key manufacturers.
We are keen to find some experienced structural steel riggers and site workers who have leading hand levels of skill, knowledge and experience. These positions will be based in Mount Maunganui and are a great opportunity to be part of a productive site team. We offer a competitive pay rate, secure employment, overtime according to programme needs and ongoing training. The pay band for this position is between $30-40 an hour with 40 hours minimum of work offered. Overtime rates for hours worked over 40 hours can be negotiated.
Applicants should have experience in structural steel installation. The ability to read and work from detailed drawings is essential.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Relevant tertiary qualification in a Engineering / Fabrication / Welding discipline; OR
- Minimum of 3 years’ relevant work experience
- Must be competent to work unsupervised during site work.
- Welding qualification ANZS2980 (or equivalent)
- Slinging or dogman experience and/or tickets.
- Elevated Work Platform (EWP) experience and/or tickets.
- Working at Heights experience and/or tickets.
The successful applicant must follow strict quality control procedures and Health and Safety guidelines.
Drug testing is now a normal part of H+S and pre-employment procedure.

Responsibilities:
- Work at a leading hand level, where you maybe expected to manage yourself and a small team.
- Read and accurately interpret drawings
- Install structural steel columns and beams. Install bracing components and cold rolled materials as required.
- Identify and report any drawing discrepancies and other issues that affect installation to Supervisor/Manager immediately
- Complete required documentation
- Daily checking and routine maintenance of equipment
- Operate EWP site equipment such as access booms and scissors.
- Sling regular and irregular loads.
- Ensure site equipment, including EWP, rigging gear, mobile cranes, grinding and cutting equipment are used appropriately for each job.
