JOB SUMMARY

Selection to be a member of GGC’s Orientation Team is an honor and a rewarding opportunity for personal and professional growth. Each year the Office of New Student Connections selects a group of mature and dedicated undergraduate student leaders to assist with implementing the college’s orientation programs. As an Orientation Leader you are responsible for welcoming new students and their families to GGC serving as a role model to new students and assisting in being a first point of contact to students and guests in their adjustment and transition to GGC.
POSITION DETAILS: All Orientation Leaders are required to attend and participate in all training sessions throughout the year. Spring, Summer & Fall Grizzly Orientation Sessions are held April-August and November-January. All Orientation Leaders are required to work scheduled orientations and planning sessions during these months. April-August is deemed peak season and requires full participation of each Orientation Leader.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Undergraduate, degree-seeking student who has completed a minimum of 12 credit hours at GGC by date of hire and maintains 6 credit hours during the Fall and Spring semesters while working in New Student Connections.
  • Must be in good academic standing and maintain good academic standing for the duration of employment.
  • Must be in good conduct standing with the Office of Student Integrity and maintain good conduct for the duration of employment.
  • Possess the following qualities: leadership skills, team oriented spirit, positive attitude, maturity, motivation, flexibility, integrity, strong work ethic, respectful and commitment to personal development.
  • Strong ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships in an environment with various backgrounds.
  • Must have the desire to learn about all aspects of GGC to present information to others.
  • Exhibit the commitment to the mission of the Office of New Student Connections and uphold the four core values that are central to GGC.

Responsibilities:

  • Welcome new students and their parents/families to GGC during orientation.
  • Facilitate small group discussions and lead groups of new students while they complete new student tasks and learn information about being a new student at GGC, both virtually and in person.
  • Be a source of information regarding degrees/programs, policies and procedures, campus services and activities, building locations, and all other aspects of student life at GGC.
  • Assist academic advisors and faculty mentors during the course registration process.
  • Work closely with the entire Orientation Leader team and professional staff.
  • Be able to take initiative with unanticipated tasks or problems.
  • Assist in the organization and preparation of orientation materials and activities as requested by New Student Connections staff to ensure the orientation program proceeds smoothly and successfully.
  • Assist with other office duties as needed.
  • Maintain regular communication with New Student Connections Staff.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.
