STUDENT – FREEDOM OF INFORMATION (CONTRACT)
The Halton Regional Police Service is currently seeking one (1) energetic, collaborative and innovative individual to join our Freedom of Information Unit (FOI) as a Summer Student from May to August 2025.

Responsibilities:
ABOUT THE ROLE – HOW YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE TO THE SERVICE:
You will be working with a team of well-respected team members within the Freedom of Information Unit (FOI) who support front line officers and members of the public in an administrative role. The FOI Student will be reporting to the Manager of Information and Records Services and you will be required to support various FOI functions. This role will be in place from May – August and appeal to a college or university student looking to develop themselves professionally through hands on exposure to a variety of tasks in support of this unit.
WHAT YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:
The FOI Unit student will be responsible various tasks including logging officer notebooks into the RMS, manage the destruction of records in accordance with the HRPS Records Retention Schedule, assist FOI staff and officers with records collection & retrieval, provide customer service at the public counter and other duties as assigned.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE:
Education, Certifications and Qualifications: We are looking for a candidate who is enrolled in post-secondary education preferably in Public Policy, Political Science, Legal Studies, Business Administration or related programs. The candidate must be returning to their program in September 2025.
Previous Experience, Knowledge and Skills: Our ideal candidate must possess strong integrity to maintain confidentiality and manage highly sensitive information. The candidate must also have solid computer skills required in MS Office (Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook), and be able to learn new computer software programs quickly, exceptional interpersonal skills, communication (written, verbal, listening skills), highly organized due to various deadlines and attention to detail skills, and customer service skills. The candidate must be able to work independently on task and take initiative with assigned projects. The ideal candidate must be able to be flexible in order to adjust to different tasks assigned and hours of work.
Note: The successful applicant will need to pass a background check to the satisfaction of the Service which will include reference checks with previous employers, verification of educational achievements, and a criminal background screen.
