Description:
Lancaster Medical School seeks to appoint a Student Officer to manage the Fitness to Practise process and the Appeals and complaints processes.
Lancaster Medical School (LMS) is required to manage a student Fitness to Practise (FtP) process in order to comply with the requirements of the primary regulator of the MBChB degree, the General Medical Council (GMC). The role holder will work closely with the FtP Lead to manage the flow of information relating to student concerns, to manage FtP investigations being undertaken by investigators, and to manage FtP panels should an investigation identify the need for a panel to hear a case.
These are very important, and very high stakes, processes taking place within a complex environment, which can be the subject of review by the regulator. The role holder will be required to have the highest standards of confidentiality as they manage and process large amounts of complex, and often highly personal, information arriving from multiple sources within the University and beyond.
Students who have not achieved a passing outcome in their assessments will have their studies terminated by the LMS Examination board. However, they have the right to appeal that decision and the role holder will manage that appeals process.
You will also manage the student complaints process.
The Faculty provides an environment that strongly supports the individual needs of each employee, promoting a healthy work-life balance. We are committed to family-friendly and flexible working policies on an individual basis, as well as the Athena SWAN Charter, which recognises and celebrates good employment practice undertaken to address gender equality in higher education.
Informal enquiries can be made to Professor Bob Lauder, Deputy Head of Lancaster Medical School (r.lauder@lancaster.ac.uk) or Dr David McGhee, LMS Fitness to Practise Lead (d.mcghee@lancaster.ac.uk).
This post is available immediately.
