The Real Estate Financial Operations (REFO) group is looking for a student to join their team on a 4-month, full-time term position. The REFO group is responsible for the collection and reporting of property level financial results and the financial statement consolidation activities of AIMCo’s Real Estate investment holding vehicles.
As the successful Student, REFO, you will learn about the functions of a high performing team and will assist the team in delivering on their objectives. Playing an important role, you will contribute to the broader Real Estate Financial Operations by applying accounting principles and analyzing financial data by assisting with the collection of property data from the external managers on a monthly basis. Additionally, you will gain in-depth experience using the Yardi Voyager accounting system and SimCorp Dimension (SCD), where you will record, process, review, validate, and reconcile real estate investment transactions and property financial statements.

Responsibilities

  • Applying accounting principles and analyzing accounting information
  • Performing bank and various investment reconciliations and ad-hoc accounting and administrative functions
  • Supporting the Accounting and Accounts Payable Analysts in the processing of real estate investment transactions and invoice payments in Yardi Voyager and SCD
  • Supporting the Accounting Specialists and Accountants in loading and validating accounting trial balances in Yardi Voyager
  • Assisting in the execution of projects under the direction of the Senior Manager, Domestic Real Estate Accounting

Our Ideal Candidate:

  • Completion of third year bachelor’s studies in Accounting, Business, or another related field.
  • Post-graduation plans to enroll in a professional accounting designation program is advantageous
  • Previous bookkeeping and/or accounting experience is a definite asset
  • Understanding of generally accepted accounting practices and principles, including International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and Canadian GAAP (ASPE) are an asset
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial data, prepare financial reports, draw conclusions, and make recommendations based on information presented
  • Highly proficient with MS Applications and ability to quickly adapt to various software applications
  • Strong understanding of finance, accounting, and business concepts
  • Exceptional research, analytical and problem-solving abilities with strong attention to detail
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
  • Thrives under pressure and enjoys contributing to team goals

Success Measures
You will confidently take over some of the tasks of the Accounting and Accounts Payable Analysts, collaborate with and assist the Accounting Specialists and Accountants with property level accounting. You will gain a large network of connections with the relationships you have built with our talented employees.
