Description:

Associate Professor Alexander Schandlbauer at the Department of Business & Management is looking for a student research assistant in the field of finance. The position can start from October 15, 2024 or by mutual arrangement at an average of 7-10 hours per week (with flexibility during exam periods).
The student research assistant will support the research project entitled “Employee health, risk aversion, and firm policies”, which is funded by a DFF 1 grant. The research project is described as follows:
Risk-aversion is a measure of a person’s attitude towards risk and one of the most central properties of human behavior. It is of profound importance for modeling people’s behavior in almost all fields of economics and finance, yet, because it is inherently difficult to measure, empirical research on the effect of individuals’ risk preferences on firm policies is limited. Our proposed project aims to fill this gap. Using Danish registry data, we plan to examine how the allocation of talent to firms is affected by individuals’ risk preferences and how such matching decisions affect firm policies and outcomes. In particular, we exploit the fact that a broad set of unexpected individual health shocks has been previously shown to affect a person’s attitude towards risk. We first ask if more risk-averse employees choose to work for more financially-stable firms, and second, if women (who have been shown to be more risk-averse than men) sort into firms with different levels of risk exposure.
Your profile : You have a strong background in finance or economics, preferably with insights and/or experience with analyzing data (for example by working with Excel or Stata). You have a high degree of work commitment, analytical skills, and strong quantitative background.
If you find the position interesting, we would like to hear from you. For more information, please contact Associate Professor Alexander Schandlbauer (alsc@sam.sdu.dk).
Please note, the selected candidate as Student Assistant must be enrolled as student at SDU. The place of work is Odense Campus with the possibility of working remotely.
Employment shall take place in accordance with the framework agreement between the Ministry of Finance and SUL (National Union for Student Teachers in Government Service).
Application must include cover letter, CV and transcript of grades. All documents in connection with the application should not contain CPR number (civil registration number) – in that case, the CPR number must be crossed out.
All attached files must be in Adobe PDF format. Cover letter and CV can contain max. 5 Mb.
We recommend that you read how to apply before you apply.
The University wishes our staff to reflect the diversity of society and thus welcomes applications from all qualified candidates regardless of personal background
