QUALIFICATIONS

  • Undergraduate student majoring in Anthropology, Year 3 or 4 of the program.
  • Completion of ANTH 3323 Zooarchaeology (preferred) or ANTH 3321 Human Osteology.
  • Familiarity with skeletal anatomy is necessary for this position.
  • Attention to detail and proficiency in keeping detailed and organized records are an asset.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Competency in MS Office Suite and Google Drive-based applications.
  • Experience participating in group work.

Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Research Assistant will assist in the research and scholarly teaching projects of the Principal Investigator. They will complete the assigned tasks and report regularly to the PI.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Organizing physical research and teaching collections (e.g., labelling and cataloguing zooarchaeological specimens, identifying specimens by taxon and skeletal element)
  • Managing a zooarchaeological database
  • Curating the zooarchaeological collection into archival-grade bags and boxes
  • Photographing reference specimens and organizing a photo database
  • Developing and promoting dissemination materials online (e.g., research team social media accounts, blog posts, etc.)
  • Contributing to written and visual presentation materials on the project
  • Consulting, reporting, and communicating regularly with the PI (e.g., email, in-person meetings)
  • Other related duties as appropriate
  • Submitting a reflection of the experience(s) gained at the end of the work period.
