Job Description
The Core Organic MS Metrology team develops reference methodology and delivers high accuracy calibration and measurement services in support of LGC’s role as the UK’s National Measurement Laboratory (NML) and Designated Institute for chemical and bio-analytical measurements. In addition, the team undertakes contract research and development projects and delivers specialist measurement services for a range of customers in both the public and private sectors. A range of available technologies are utilised within the team, including single and triple quadrupole MS, High Resolution MS (QToF, Orbitrap and IMS-ToF) all with associated separation capabilities including HPLC, microflow-HPLC and GC.
The role is for a placement within the Core Organic Mass Spectrometry (MS) team and the successful candidate will undertake a research project for a period of 12 months from August 2025, to develop and validate new methods for the screening, quantification and characterisation of small organic molecules utilizing state of the art instrumentation, to solve emerging measurement challenges related to environmental and food sustainability as well as healthcare.
As a placement student you will gain experience in a range of analytical technologies, and develop the knowledge and skills needed to utilise our procedures and instruments to perform screening, characterisation and quantification of small organic compounds, to support the research projects and measurement services delivered by the Core Organic MS Metrology team.
Qualifications
Must be undertaking a chemistry or chemistry related degree, with industrial placement year.
