JOB SUMMARY

As the only dental school in Atlantic Canada, the Faculty of Dentistry has been offering an outstanding education in dentistry and dental hygiene for more than 100 years and is a key part of Dalhousie’s inter-professional and allied health community that includes the Faculties of Medicine and Health. Reporting to the Associate Dean, Students, the Student Success Strategist will support students in the programs within the Faculty, providing coaching, referrals, sessions and exam preparation.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Undergraduate degree with three to five years’ experience implementing and applying student success strategies in a post-secondary environment (or an equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Experience in program development, implementation and assessment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written, verbal and presentation), including the ability to communicate to a diverse audience and demonstrated intercultural competency.
  • Strong initiative and strong judgment as well as time management, analytical and problem solving skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide intensive, focused and individualized professional coaching to identified learners with the objective of strengthening and enhancing interpersonal and conflict management, academic and time management skills in relation to the learner’s year/program.
  • Address issues identified by Associate/Assistant Deans, Director, appropriate committees. This may include providing specific, and sometimes challenging feedback to learners in response to limiting habits or actions.
  • Conduct midterm meeting with all program years for check in on mental wellness with focus on identity shift management, stress and overwhelm management, building stronger teams, patient relationship building and socialization development.
  • Develop and provide resources and support for learners in Faculty. Conduct workshops, group presentations, seminars, and other types of sessions to learners which could include in person, online, self-directed, and on-the-job learning formats.
  • Present development sessions to faculty members (lunch and learns, summer/winter faculty retreats).
  • Participates in the EDIA committee to provide a student success perspective and on the Professional Development Committee to assist with program development.
