POSITION SUMMARY:

Moraine Park Technical College is seeking a Student Support and Engagement Specialist. The Student Support and Engagement Specialist develops effective strategies for student engagement and academic success. Providing campus-wide programming and one on one mentoring, peer to peer support groups, and community resource connections to increase inclusion, belonging, and retention, while reducing barriers for all student populations. Significant travel is required between our West Bend and Fond du Lac campuses during the academic year. Travel may be required throughout the year and working evenings/weekends as needed for student events.
The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, sociology, social work, human services or a related field and two years’ experience in working with diverse populations or communities or in student services in higher education.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of bilingual-related issues, services and the transition processes required to promote student success in a higher education setting.
  • Knowledge of and experience with issues families/individuals face regarding poverty; knowledge of local resources (health, housing, childcare, food).
  • Familiarity with student development theory and needs of two-year college students.
  • Working knowledge of educational settings, general public relations and the mission of technical colleges.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers. Ability to collaborate and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to communicate clearly and effectively with end users, colleagues, and management to provide a complete and timely explanation of issues and decisions to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, including the ability to prioritize special projects with routine assignments.
  • Knowledge of ERP systems and software applications, including Microsoft Office 365 (Office Suite, Teams, SharePoint, etc.).
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work; research and analyze information, resolve problems and make recommendations.
  • High degree of integrity and professionalism and a demonstrated ability to respect the confidentiality of information and demonstrate critical and systems thinking.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations by promoting and maintaining an inclusive work environment and culture that is respectful and accepting of diversity.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bilingual written and verbal communication skills in Spanish language.
  • Working knowledge of the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
    Any combination of necessary experience and qualifications which provides desired knowledge, skills and abilities.

OTHER POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Flexible scheduling may be required to include evenings and weekends.
    Hiring Range: $25.45-$29.94
    Starting: Immediately
    Workplace Flexibility: Limited work from home upon approval
    Hours/Schedule/Travel: Academic: Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Summer: Monday - Thursday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Significant travel is required. 3 days per week will be on our West Bend Campus and two days per week will be on our Fond du Lac Campus during the academic year. Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with MPTC faculty and employees to ensure students culturally transition to the MPTC campus community through diversity-related programming and educational plan reviews. Plan, develop and implement student outreach activities related to inclusion, belonging and retention.
  • Build and maintain meaningful relationships with community support services in collaboration with other student support employees to help promote student success and retention. Participate in community diversity-related and events associated with the goals and objectives of the College.
  • Serve as a liaison between community agencies and students by establishing and maintaining contact with key agency staff. Represent MPTC on committees and task forces related to diversity, equity, inclusion and community collaboration.
  • Enhance student retention and completion rates by supporting and promoting peer-to-peer connections through academic and engagement activities. Evaluate the effectiveness of support provided to students by developing and maintaining activity reports for retention, grant reporting, tracking and accountability purposes. Maintain student records.
  • Create and lead programming to educate students and employees on issues related to diverse and underrepresented populations.
  • Coordinate and implement professional development activities regarding multilingual students and retention with the College’s ELL department, recruitment and area high schools.
  • Collaborate with service providers and community-based organizations to ensure communication and understanding and to promote campus awareness of multicultural student experiences, needs and concerns.
  • Assist enrolled students in their transition to MPTC including tours, resources, peer to peer support groups and 1:1 meetings linking students to other support services.
