Student Support Counsellor
Onsite (1 day remote)
Brock University, St. Catharines, Ontario
Permanent, Full-time (Monday to Friday)

As a global-leading health and well-being provider, TELUS Health is committed to building a healthier and friendlier future for all. We partner with Brock University and have a team of counsellors on campus that provides mental health support for their students, through our Student Support Program.
The opportunity
You will play a crucial role in providing short term counselling services to Brock University students as they pursue their higher education, supporting their cultural, social, and academic success.
Counselling will be offered in person four days/ week and remotely one day/week.

How you will make an impact:

  • You will provide short-term counselling to a diverse young adult population dealing with various issues that may or may not be academically related;
  • You will work with students to set short term objectives and develop a strategy to achieve them, using a strength-based, solution-focused approach;
  • You will advocate for student mental health and the psychological well-being and safety of the student community;
  • You will refer clients to appropriate community resources as needed;
  • You will manage the administrative requirements as dictated by the Student Support Program team.

Are you the missing piece of the puzzle:

The ideal candidate enjoys working with a young adult population and demonstrates great short term counselling skills.

  • You hold a master’s degree in Counselling, Psychology, Social Work or related field;
  • You are in good standing with a professional College in Ontario (CPO, OCSWSSW or CRPO);
  • You have post-masters counselling experience;
  • You demonstrate the ability to set short term objectives and use a solution focused approach;
  • You have the ability to clinically manage high-risk cases, including clients who are a threat to self or others;
  • You have an expert understanding of developmental issues of late adolescence (e.g., mental health, disordered eating, transition, relationships & sexuality, substance abuse, etc.);
  • You demonstrate empathy and are able to meet people where they are;
  • You wish to become part of a team that supports and learn from each other;
  • Good knowledge of community resources is an asset.
