Description:
Introduction to Digital Archives and Methods is a moderately computationally intensive course in History BA. This course is scheduled on Mondays 10 - 14 and Wednesdays 8 - 12 in weeks 6 - 20, with Hacky Hours on Fridays 12 - 16. Assistance is needed for both the class and Hacky Hours. Students are in groups of circa 50 students who work in teams to complete digital tasks. Content is presented twice - once for each group. The course is in-person. We are looking for two student teaching assistants who can offer technical guidance on digital tools as well as conceptual guidance on the main tasks and themes of the course.
The tasks of the assistants are to provide in-class/remote assistance (in class-time):
- setup:
- assist with local software installations or online instantiations of Voyant, Transkribus, UCloud, R, OpenRefine, Trove, Mediestream, registration to Github.
- access to course sources and computational environments
- operation:
- help students operate the tools introduced in the course and
- guide students in the pursuit of course tasks. Help interpret tool outputs during the conceptual work towards assessments; demonstrate best practice and computational thinking; don’t give out fish, teach how to fish.
- Act as student liaisons, translating their needs into technical questions for the instructors.
Selected candidates should be digitally savvy and enthusiastic as well as social, reliable and well-organised. The work requires independence and demands flexibility, and accuracy. Furthermore, the candidate should have good interpersonal skills.
The ideal candidate’s application should demonstrate the following qualifications:
- Good English and Danish, both oral and written
- Familiarity with the domain, course materials as well as the digital tools introduced: previous attendance of Digital Archives and Methods or Theory Oriented Methods
- Experience with troubleshooting code and a knack for digital problem-solving as well as digital history
- Proactive, motivated and enthusiastic attitude
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and fellow assistants, as well as liaise with instructors
For further questions about the job description and qualifications, please contact Adéla Sobotková (adela@cas.au.dk).
Deadline is 17 November. Applications must be written in English and accompanied by a brief CV. Please confirm your availability on the days of the course.
