Description:

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Knowledge & Experience:

  • Proven experience working with adults, including young adults, facing personal, emotional, or mental health difficulties.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a team and deliver training/education.
  • Familiarity with ethical frameworks for clinical practice and the importance of research in mental health.
  • A commitment to reflective practice and continuous professional development.
  • Skills & Abilities:
  • Strong therapeutic skills in working with individuals facing emotional challenges.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
  • Strong self-management skills and resilience under pressure.
  • Capacity to work collaboratively and independently, managing multiple priorities.
  • Education & Training:
  • Professional qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g., social work, nursing, psychology, counselling/psychotherapy).
  • Substantial experience in mental health and/or support services.

DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Knowledge of legislation relating to disability and mental health.
  • Experience addressing the unique challenges facing students in higher education.
  • Familiarity with group facilitation to enhance student wellbeing.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, deliver, and evaluate innovative personal, emotional, and wellbeing support initiatives for students.
  • Offer compassionate, individual guidance to students dealing with personal and emotional difficulties, promoting their retention and success.
  • Conduct intake consultations and triage assessments, coordinating referrals to appropriate services.
  • Act as a coordinator for students navigating multiple support services, ensuring effective communication with faculty and staff.
  • Manage mental health crises, serving as a vital liaison between the University and external agencies when necessary.
  • Support the Additional Support and Disability Advice Centre in ensuring compliance with legal requirements for students facing mental health challenges.
  • Champion mental health awareness and wellbeing initiatives across the student body.
  • Provide guidance and support to staff working with students experiencing emotional and wellbeing challenges.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with third-sector organizations and community mental health services.
  • Engage in internal and external networks to share best practices and knowledge in mental health support.
  • Stay informed of best practices and professional standards in mental health support.
  • Maintain accurate and ethical records in line with professional guidelines.
  • Adhere to professional ethical frameworks in all interactions.
  • Participate in planned out-of-hours work to ensure accessibility of services to all students.
  • Review and refine relevant policies and processes associated with the role.
  • Undertake additional duties as required by the Director of Student Services.
