POSITION DETAILS

The University is seeking applications for a full-time Student Wellness Support Specialist. The Specialist provides coordinated care and support to students accessing mental health services through University of Lethbridge Student Wellness Services. This non-clinical role involves one-on-one meetings focused on assisting students, particularly those from vulnerable populations such as international students, first-year students, and those in residence. The position also includes collaboration with the Student Wellness Coordinator to raise awareness about mental health services and contribute to the overall well-being of the university community. Please be aware that some evening work may be required.
The University of Lethbridge is undertaking a job classification review for Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) positions. As such, the classification level currently assigned for this position may be adjusted as a result of this project.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate for the Student Wellness Support Specialist position will have a passion for supporting student well-being and mental health. Responsibilities include conducting wellness support sessions, providing crisis intervention, making referrals, and participating in outreach activities. This position requires a strong understanding of mental health issues, crisis intervention, and the ability to collaborate with various campus and external resources.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct one-on-one wellness sessions focusing on goal setting, resilience, and connecting students with appropriate resources.
  • Provide trauma-informed care, brief counseling, and crisis intervention.
  • Collaborate with campus departments and external organizations to ensure students receive comprehensive support.
  • Manage confidential student records and maintain up-to-date knowledge of mental health practices.
  • Support campus-wide mental health initiatives and outreach programs, including workshops and training.

Position Education and Experience

  • Minimum Required:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., BSW, B.Ed, B.H.Sc., Public Health)
  • 1-2 years of experience in mental health or crisis intervention
  • Registration with an appropriate professional body
  • Preferred:
  • Master’s degree in a related field
  • 3 years of experience in mental health and 2 years in crisis intervention
  • Experience with program delivery and implementation

Note: The successful candidate will be required to provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
