About the role
Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a Sub Agent to join our North West Regional Business Unit in Warrington working on a variety of Highway Improvement Schemes
You will lead and control a section or specific discipline of the works as part of a site based project team. This will include the management of a team of Section Engineers & Site Engineers
What you’ll be doing

As a Sub Agent, you will:

  • Ensure a relentless focus on Zero Harm
  • Motivate the team and manage performance; monitor the competency of team members and undertake training/ coaching as appropriate
  • Review Method Statements and Risk Assessments and make improvements as appropriate
  • Carry out trend analysis and identify improvement areas from audits and near misses
  • Carry out field audits and confirm the sufficiency of control documentation
  • Produce and implement Permits to Work, specifically Confined Space Permits and Hot Works Permits
  • Possess a strong understanding of temporary works and timescales for implementation into the works
  • Manage sub-contractors
  • Understand cost and value
  • Draft correspondence to sub-contractors, suppliers and Client

Who we’re looking for

You will:

  • Clearly communicate the requirements of a safe system of work to ensure that these are followed accurately.
  • Work on your own initiative and seek out opportunities in line with level of responsibility
  • Hold a current driving license and CSCS Card. SSSTS or SMSTS qualified
  • Be an excellent team player, able to work competently and independently without continuous supervision
  • Possess strong communication skills with good interpersonal and influencing skills
  • Be an excellent role model for development of team members and demonstrate required behaviours to align to project and team objectives
  • Have a good working knowledge of current H&S Legislation
  • Have a full understanding of technical requirements and techniques of setting out and coaching of team members
  • Possess good working knowledge of Contracts such as the NEC

The following qualities/experience are desirable:

  • Strong knowledge and management of construction process in one or more of the following areas: Earthworks/Drainage, Pavement, Structures, Roadworks
  • Have achieved or is working towards professional accreditation (eg ICE, IHT, APM)

This position offers flexibility in working hours, with the possibility of reduced hours to accommodate individual needs.
