Description:
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The City of Maple Ridge is excited to announce an opening for a Subdivision Development Technologist a specialized technical role that plays a key part in shaping the city’s future! As a Subdivision Development Technologist, you’ll be actively involved in reviewing various aspects of subdivision, rezoning applications, development projects, and building permits. In this role, you will provide guidance and expertise to property owners and developers, helping them navigate the application process while ensuring compliance with city requirements and by-law provisions.
This is a specialized technical position involving visiting sites, reviewing and issuing building and site grading permits, and reviewing specific aspects of Subdivision and Development Applications concerning subdivision, development permit and rezoning proposals and projects. This position provides assistance and advice to internal departments, property owners and developers seeking approval of applications; conducts on-site inspections to ensure compliance with approved comprehensive lot grading plans; and deals with matters related to Building, Zoning and Subdivision Bylaws flowing from site grading, soil stabilization, retaining wall building permits and site drainage control issues.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from an Institute of Technology in Civil Engineering Technology plus some related experience in a Municipal engineering office OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Considerable knowledge of the rules, regulations, policies, standards, by-laws and requirements applicable to the work performed.
- Sound knowledge of the functions and responsibilities of various internal and external agencies relative to land use control and supply of essential services.
- Sound knowledge of the Municipal design and engineering standards and engineering mathematics applicable to the work performed.
- Working knowledge of the applicable provisions of the Local Government Act, Community Charter and Land Titles Act.
- Ability to interpret and apply the provisions of applicable by-laws and other relevant requirements in processing applications.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and plans; identify, collect and analyze relevant information and data from these and other sources, and prepare clear, concise reports specifying facts, findings, conclusions and/or recommendations.
- Ability to provide assistance, advice and information to various contacts on matters related to the work.
- Ability to prepare designs for road, water and storm and sanitary sewer systems.
- Ability to calculate costs and prepare and maintain reports, files, correspondence and other related material.
