Responsibilities:

RESPONSIBILITIES:

You will be able to put yourself in the shoes of our customer and deliver concepts that add true value and uniqueness alongside the robust advanced engineering to ensure early stage layouts work that encompass functional requirements.
Building a strong relationship with Product is fundamental in understanding the vehicles and systems we should develop to stay relevant in a fast changing BEV landscape.
As required you will be able to add value in initial target confirmation and hardpoint generation and follow this beyond the initial scope and into the latter stages of the project where they will be the key interface in integration reviews to maintain consistency throughout the engineering stages of the project.

As a Subject Matter Expert you will not have any direct reports as such but will establish and maintain close working relationships with:

  • Vehicle Architecture
  • Vehicle Integration
  • Product
  • Function/Commodity Groups

Although a lead role you will be required to be a ‘hands on’ engineer able to build robust Catia models, generate CAD schemes/sections as required using Catia V5/V6 that will explain early concepts/schemes to a wide audience
You should understand the requirements required by the vehicle, using this to generate and communicate robust engineering solutions that meet the attributes of the final product.
A good breadth of knowledge in one or more commodity specific areas (body structures, exterior, interior, mechanisms, chassis, thermal or electrical) would be advantageous as the company is working on vehicles in multiple sectors & regions.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

The principal accountabilities of the Subject Matter Expert are to balance the project specific engineering solutions and manage these through the early concept definition and scheme development that can feed into the production BoM.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage Schemes and Concepts to deliver true value and uniqueness
  • Assist with the generation of Master Models and Hardpoints at the Early Stage of Products
  • Help to define targets where none exist and understand them in the context of the wider vehicle/platform
  • Escalate and Present incompatibilities between aspiration, target, design and package where required with possible solutions for informed decision making
  • Liaise with Vehicle Architecture to ensure technical targets and hardpoints are supported and delivered where required.
  • Liaise with the Product team to understand future vehicles, variants, sub systems
  • Generate Concept sections to support the transition to the wider engineering team.
  • Plan and maintain progress in improving personal professional competence.
  • Ensure that your technical knowledge and expertise is kept up to date.
  • Use knowledge of component engineering to suggest design solutions
  • Ensure designs meet all relevant safety and regulatory requirements, and are formally verified to meet these and other specifications (performance, cost).
  • Maintain pro-active liaison between Styling, Design, Engineering, to ensure effective project communication
  • Engineering experience across a number of commodity groups ideally powertrain, interior, structures, chassis, exterior, BIW or electrical in an automotive OEM or Tier 1 supplier:
  • Package/Concept/Architecture Engineer for 5+ years
  • Engineer: over 10years
  • Understanding of concept, package and integration in automotive
  • Competence in reviewing engineering solutions.
  • Catia V5 (or alternative CAD system) design experience essential.
  • To perform any other duties that may well be reasonably expected within the remit of the role.
  • To ensure compliance with the Health, Safety and Environmental Policy requirements within areas of responsibility.
