Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) is inviting applications for the casual position of Summer Coordinator in Parks and Recreation.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- At least one season/summer of experience leading preschoolers/children/youth in a recreational setting and designing program curriculum
- Knowledge and understanding of Healthy Child Development
- At least one season/summer of demonstrated program leadership skills
- Supervisory experience an asset
- Experience teaching sport an asset
- Previous experience working with persons with disabilities an asset
TECHNICAL / JOB SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
- Current certification in Emergency First Aid (CSA Basic) and Level C CPR
- Successful completion of all training requirements (including High Five and WHMIS) prior to start date
- Access to a reliable vehicle may be required for some positions
- Screening through the Child Abuse Registry and a Police Record Check
Security Clearance Requirements: Applicants may be required to complete an employment security screening check.
Please note – Testing may be conducted as a component of the selection process to assess technical and job specific knowledge. Candidates, who are selected for testing, may be tested in a group setting, scheduled at the employer’s discretion.

WORK STATUS: Casual/Seasonal - May 20th, 2025, to August 29th, 2025
HOURS OF WORK: Monday to Friday 8:30am- 4:30pm. Must be flexible/some evening and weekend work required
SALARY: Non-Union, $20.20 per hour (plus 4% vacation pay)

Responsibilities:
The Summer Coordinator plans and organizes recreational programs and schedules facilities for a variety of age groups. The coordinator designs curriculum and supports persons with disabilities in programs (i.e. personal care, lifting procedures, adapting activities, etc.). Other responsibilities include: daily duties such as planning, implementing, promoting, supervising, and evaluating recreation programs and services; scheduling, supervising, motivating, and evaluating Summer Program Instructors; managing risks, ensuring participant safety; inventories, distributes and collects equipment and supplies; handling administrative duties, networking with community groups and organizations; organizing special events and outings, submitting regular reports, tracking statistics; maintaining a budget and organizing staff meeting.
