About the OPPORTUNITY
We have a new opportunity for a Superintendent to join our Hunter Class Frigate Program based at SA-Osborne Naval Shipyard, reporting to the Mechanical Trade Manager.
We embrace flexible work arrangements at BAE Systems Australia, including a 9 day fortnight.
The position is responsible for running projects/areas within a manufacturing environment in accordance with the developed plan. This position will be required to organise supervisors in different streams, subcontractors and trades resources to complete activities and tasks for specific projects. It will ensure all activities associated with the manufacture, production and assembly of components are produced in the most cost effective way whilst maintaining an efficient use of resources and meeting all safety, design, quality and budget requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, manage and execute the delivery of production outputs to the required standard
  • Lead the validation and improvement of production processes
  • Provide feedback to build strategy and propose any changes for improvement
  • Work with planning to agree trade performance norms by product
  • Communicate objectives to production teams to increase awareness and support program and business initiatives
  • Support the development, coaching and mentoring of apprentices
  • Ensure compliance with the SHE Management System, mitigating risks and improving overall SHE performance
  • Negotiate with and influence internal and/or external stakeholders in a way which generates business benefit whilst maintaining key relationships
  • Facilitate and capitalise on change and innovation by participating in the introduction and management of change in the workforce, develop creative and flexible solutions and manage emerging opportunities as challenges
  • Contribute to a workplace learning environment by creating learning opportunities, promote learning and monitor and improve learning effectiveness

About YOU

  • Trade qualification and extensive experience working with steel sub-straight surface preparation, painting and chemical/compound mixing and or applying
  • Experience in vacuum bagging within industrial environment in either manufacturing or repairing composites
  • Sound knowledge in industrial paint processes and surface curvature and finish
  • Previous Maritime experience in Hull surfacing (desired)
  • Shipbuilding experience (desired)
  • Well-developed self-management skills and demonstrated ability to work under own initiative to deliver outputs to time, quality and cost
  • Ability to balance conflicting priorities to deliver against customer and business requirements, with appropriate stakeholder management
  • Proven ability to function confidently within a project team and broader business environment
  • Able to form & facilitate problem solving teams in order to achieve engineering systems and processes outcomes
