Job Description
County of Grande Prairie is hiring for a full-time Superintendent, Regional Enforcement Services.
Reporting to the General Manager, Community Services, this management position is to oversee the operation and administration of the County of Grande Prairie No. 1 Regional Enforcement Services department. The Superintendent, Regional Enforcement Services is to protect and serve the citizens of the County of Grande Prairie and the Region. The Superintendent, Regional Enforcement Services also ensures that these duties are satisfactorily carried out by all other employees in the department.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Acceptable Criminal Records Check and Driver’s Abstract
- RCMP enhanced reliability screening
- Valid Driver’s License
- Good Physical Condition – must be capable of passing the PARE to achieve Community Peace Officer Level 1 Appointment
- Able to demonstrate an exceptional knowledge of Alberta policing and the Alberta Peace Officer program – legislation and policies
- Ability to ensure all work-related information is kept confidential as per policy and in accordance with Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act
- Ability to comply with records management practices as stated in the Records Management Policy, Alberta Public Safety and Emergency Services policy as well as the Peace Officer Act and regulations
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of 10 years related police or law enforcement experience with a portion gained in a supervisory capacity in the last three to five years
- Community Peace Officer Level 1 Appointment
- Completed Community Peace Officer Induction Program (CPOIP) or equivalency
- College diploma in Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice or related field
- Completion of Motor Transport Weights and Dimensions Course
- Certification in Radar, Laser, EVOC, TPR, Baton, and OC Spray is an asset
- Experience in Emergency Management with ICS 300 or 400 training is an asset
- Proficiency in using law enforcement software and technology

Responsibilities:
The Superintendent of Regional Enforcement Services will oversee the operations and strategic direction of our enforcement services within the region. This role requires a strong leader with extensive experience in law enforcement, regulatory compliance, and public safety. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a team of officers, developing enforcement strategies, and ensuring compliance with local, provincial, and federal regulations.
- Lead and manage the Regional Enforcement Services team, providing direction, support, and mentorship: Peace Officer Sergeants, Community Standards Sergeant, and the Court Liaison Officer - Administrative Supervisor
- Develop and implement enforcement strategies and policies to ensure compliance with regulations
- Monitor and ensure that the enforcement of Provincial Statutes of Alberta related to motor vehicle operation and investigation of complaints on same legislation as per the Peace Officer appointment. Ensure compliance with the provincial traffic safety plan
- Manage and negotiate contracts and agreements with regional partners, RCMP, and Government of Alberta and ensure compliance with their contracted requests. Ensure contracted monthly reports are completed and sent out. Liaise with the municipal Council’s and Administration of each contracted community
- Foster positive relationships with community members, businesses, and other stakeholders
- Stay current with changes in laws, regulations, and best practices related to enforcement services
- Act in the stead of the General Manager, Community Services as required. Serve as part of Community Services Management Team
- Conduct performance management on all direct reports and ensure they complete same as required for all Regional Enforcement Services personnel
- Liaise with the Alberta Public Safety and Emergency Services Department on all department activities and appointments
