Description:

DESIRED COMPETENCIES AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Seven (7) years of underground electrical work experience, with a minimum of three (3) years supervisory experience, within the mining or heavy industrial sectors; including experience managing electrical systems in an underground mining environment, including high-voltage power distribution, communication systems, and equipment maintenance;
  • Red Seal journeyperson qualification as an Electrician; Certifications in high-voltage systems or industrial safety are an asset; and
  • In-depth knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), OSHA standards, NFPA, and other relevant safety regulations.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the underground electrical team, ensuring work is completed safely, on time to the required standards. Coordinate daily team operations, allocating resources, assigning tasks based on skills and priorities, and ensuring schedules are met while providing guidance and mentorship to develop team skills;
  • Oversee the installation, maintenance, and repair of all underground electrical systems, including power distribution, transformers, switchgear, communication systems, and related equipment; Ensure all work complies with the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), OSHA, NFPA, and site-specific safety protocols;
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules to minimize downtime;
  • Perform regular safety audits and risk assessments, identifying potential hazards and taking corrective actions; Ensure all electrical work is done with the proper PPE and manage certification processes for high-voltage and other safety-critical equipment;
  • Collaborate with Mine Operations, Maintenance, and Technical Services to align electrical work with mine schedules and production targets. Plan and manage electrical projects, ensuring work is completed within budget and on schedule;
  • Review electrical designs, schematics, and documentation to ensure compliance with standards and identify potential improvements. Provide technical expertise in troubleshooting complex electrical issues and minimizing downtime;
  • Lead the development of training programs for the electrical team, ensuring all staff are equipped with the knowledge and certifications required for their roles; and
  • Maintain up-to-date electrical schematics and ensure all documentation complies with regulatory requirements.
