The Corporate Procurement and Supply Services Branch (CPSS) is the centralized supply chain management and tendering authority for the City of Edmonton, responsible for setting corporate policy and delivering a full range of business services worth over $1 Billion annually. Within the Branch, the Supply Chain Management section is accountable for the City’s inventory management and distribution services. In this dynamic Supply Chain Management role, you will be responsible for a team that issues over 1 million parts and materials annually, supporting Fleet Maintenance, Roadway Maintenance, and Bus Shelter Maintenance.
As the Superintendent of Warehouse Operations, you will lead a team of 4 direct reports and over 40 staff across 22 warehouse locations, ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of critical services to the section’s business partners. Overseeing a complex, multi-location network, you will drive operational excellence and implement strategic initiatives that fulfill diverse, operational needs. This role requires actively maintaining compliance with safety and environmental standards, championing employee engagement, and developing strong partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure high service levels and operational success.

SKILLS REQUIRED FOR SUCCESS:

  • Proven ability to inspire, coach, and mentor a diverse team of unionized employees, including direct and indirect reports
  • Thorough knowledge of relevant safety regulations, environmental standards, and compliance requirements
  • Proven ability to identify and analyze problems, develop solutions, and implement corrective actions
  • Excellent critical thinking skills, considering upstream and downstream impacts to make timely decisions
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to deliver presentations
  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with diverse internal and external stakeholders
  • Knowledge of warehouse management systems, inventory control methods, and distribution processes
  • Proficient in using a variety of software applications including Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), and standard office productivity tools such as Microsoft and Google Suite
  • Knowledge of warehouse management systems, inventory control methods, and distribution processes
  • Proven planning and organizational skills to manage service delivery

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge, training and/or experience in Warehousing, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Operations Management or Engineering. A combination of experience or education in a related field may be considered
  • Experience in a leadership role within a large, complex organization including experience in Supply Chain operation

Responsibilities:

  • Lead, develop and motivate a team of unionized leadership, technical and warehouse staff, cultivating a culture of safety, collaboration and operational excellence
  • Oversee warehousing and distribution operations, including material handling, inventory control, storage, and distribution of goods
  • Develop and monitor performance metrics that align with business objectives
  • Report on operational challenges, develop action plans and implement improvements with the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Implement and ensure compliance with internal and regulatory policies and procedures
  • Build collaborative partnerships with internal stakeholders and business partners to align warehouse operations with service requirements
  • Collaborate with the Manager in developing and implementing strategic plans tailored to Warehouse Operations and the Supply Chain Management section
