JOB SUMMARY

The Supervisor, Apprenticeship Programs is responsible for Hydro Ottawa’s internal Apprenticeship Programs - Powerline Technician (PLT) and Powercable Technician (PCT) and for maintaining Hydro Ottawa’s partnership with Algonquin College for both the Powerline Technician Diploma Program and the Training Delivery Agent status. Responsibilities include the enhancement and ongoing maintenance of training content, planning for the delivery of training, including materials, equipment and people resources, assigning tasks to program instructors and collaborating with college faculty and directors as required to ensure the successful delivery of Programs.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Powerline Technician Journeyperson certification with 10 years of experience, including experience with leading teams.
  • Experience providing instruction in a similar role.
  • Project management experience is considered an asset.
  • English language skills essential, Bilingualism (French/English) considered an asset
    This is a management group opportunity and salary will be commensurate with qualifications.

Responsibilities:

Apprenticeship Programs:

  • Responsible for the training of PLT and PCT apprentices through a specified curriculum including ensuring the alignment with Skilled Trades Ontario and the Ministry Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development.
  • Organize and implement work plans for each Program including recruiting, hiring and scheduling instructors coordinating training spaces, overseeing the execution of the training including all related administrative and financial requirements, and following-up with post training review and feedback.
  • Responsible for team safety, and the on-time, completion of the work, execution of the scheduled apprenticeship training program.
  • Continuously review and implement resource requirements, ensuring appropriate training is provided, delegating tasks and assignments, defining goals, communicating feedback on performance and ensuring strict adherence to all health and safety standards and other applicable laws and regulations.
  • Coordinate with Algonquin College in the administration of the Program including registration and sponsorship confirmation, attendance and grade tracking and level completion confirmation.
  • Ensure the quantity and quality of the training progresses as it should by adjusting schedules as required to deal with unforeseen problems.
  • In the event of an accident/incident, ensure quick response including follow up and completion of required documentation.
  • Coach for improved efficiency, effectiveness, quality, accuracy and safety by recommending new or improved work methods and techniques, maintaining working tools and equipment in sound operational condition.
  • Responsible for overseeing performance of qualified PLT’s in delivery of apprentice training programs.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Algonquin Program:

  • Lead the enhancement and maintenance of training content (lesson plans, instructor and participant manuals, exams / assessments).
  • Plan for and execute the delivery of regularly scheduled instruction at Hydro Ottawa’s Training Centre.
  • Provide ongoing direction and coaching to program instructors.
  • Ensure student awareness of course learning outcomes and evaluation techniques.
  • Provide a learning environment which makes effective use of available resources including learning technologies, the external training yard and associated tools and materials.
  • Lead the evaluation of student progress/achievement and participate in the overall assessment of the student’s work within assigned courses.
  • Act as the point of contact for Algonquin students and liaise with the Powerline Technician Diploma Program Coordinator to meet administrative and financial requirements and program due dates (mid-terms, etc.).
  • Ensure the development and creation of a learning environment that is conducive to success for all students.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Driver Certification Program

  • Act as the Recognized Authority Official for our Driver Certification Program.
  • Ensure all documentation for the Driver Certification Program are maintained and updated as required including Hydro Ottawa profile and documents on the MTO website.
  • Maintain upgrade and renewal results in the Driver Certification Program MTO online system.
  • Participate in regular audits of the Program.
  • Ensure availability of vehicles and trailers for use in license upgrade training conducted by Signing Authority (SA).
  • Support the Driver Competency Assessment process as required.
